FYI Waterford crystal vases do to. My grandmother gave me a small rounded one that looked like a grenade on screening. (Waterford is leaded crystal!)

Or an Irish Whiskey bunt cake wrapped in tin foil! At least 3 agents were looking at it trying to figure out what it could be.

I think the TSA will take ANY sword, no matter how plastic and fake it looks, because they don't want to make the call about what looks fake and what looks real - they just take them all.

We took three pirate swords on board a few weeks ago (we bought them at Target). There were several people with the same ones. We used them on pirate night.

it definately WILL show up in airport scanners and be confiscated, no doubt about it (unless it is so far off from realistic that it'd be ridiculous)
