Bishop, by the way, is a perfect spot to hole up for a night if you're coming down from Idaho, N. Nevada or N. Utah.

Beautiful photos, particularly the last one of your DD!

. We are closer so won't have a chance to drive that route but your photos remind me of the many roadtrips my dad took us on when I was a kid. His favorite was always CA to the Grand Canyon. I thought the scenery monotonous as a child, but he would wax poetic about every new mountain range.

We fish along 395 every summer just north of Bridgeport. I agree that it is a beautiful drive and so much to see if you have the time to check it out!

Beautiful isn't it? Way out of our way, it would add a few hours for us, but yes, it is beautiful.

Done it many times. Nice scenery but it is just so much easier and faster to pop over to CA and take the 5 down.
395 is mostly just dual lane and it is not pleasant to drive. Very aggravating always trying to decide if you can get around a RV before oncoming traffic wipes you out or before the next bend.
If going to Yosemite or Death Valley it's the only way to go.

I go to see my family up in Reno and in Carson City every year for Christmas or Thanksgiving. I agree that 395 is the best route from in the Reno area. Me and a family member drive up from Orange to Reno on 395.

Gorgeous photos! The first shot is my favorite for the clarity - the outlines of the mountains are so crisp and clear - and for the color of the land/field in the foreground.
