Most people here pronounce it pee-cuhn. Although that obviously differs from the American ways of saying it since you tend to pronounce vowels a little differently- so I'm not sure how it would be supposed to sound in the US.

A pee-can is what a trucker uses... Not a nut

Mississippian here- We say Puh Kahn.

And our version of pee can is--
"A pee can is what you keep under the bed at night."

Saying pee can for pecan is like nails on a chalk board to me.

As my grandfather used to say, a "pee-can" is something you keep on a boat.

Smelling like a horse doesn't make you a cavalryman
I'd wear a pair. I might even be able to get Mrs. Tex to wear some
I need to provide sufficient background in every post to make sense

Dictionary.com:

pe·can
   [pi-kahn, -kan, pee-kan] Show IPA
noun
1.
a tall hickory tree, Carya illinoinensis, of the southern U.S. and Mexico, cultivated for its oval, smooth-shelled, edible nuts: the state tree of Texas.
2.
a nut of this tree.

Seems both are acceptable. I say PEE-CAN.

I'm another that says it different depending on what I'm talking about.

Pies and ice cream are pee-can, but if just referring to the actual nut it is a pa-cohn.

Same here. Pee-can Pie, all else : puh cahn, as in Butter pecan ( puhcann). My Gramma was from the South and I picked up the 2 diff pronunciations from her, I think.
