SideshowBob in St Louis for NLCS games. Any advice from DIS friends?

On plane in Atlanta on way to St Louis for the three NLCS games this week. I would love some advice from my DIS friends on things to check out while here as well as food and beverage recommendations. Thank you!

Well there will be pep rally's and fun downtown. It will be crowded. It is going to rain today. So either expect a rain delay or a rainout. We will see. They are promising hot chocolate and hot soup for sale though at the stadium. Doors open at 1pm, I do believe.

As far as food, well, we really don't eat downtown much but I am sure everywhere will be crowded.

The "popular one" right near the stadium is Mike Shannon's but I do know that is elbow to elbow in the "bar area".

Have fun!!!!

Where are you staying? There are lots of things to do. Admission to the St Louis zoo is free and it a great zoo. Anheuser Busch tours are free and close to downtown. The City Museum and the Magic House are great if you have kids with you. Of course the Arch and the Old Courthouse are right downtown. If you are kid less, the Landing area will be hopping pre and post game and there is a casino there.

For food be sure to grab a bratzal or pretzel dog at the stadium but they are only available at a handful of concession areas. Also Gus pretzels and Ted Drewes frozen custard are St. Louis staples. The Hill area has fabulous Italian food. My favorite is Zia's but you really can't go wrong. In the Delmar loop there are several cool places. We like Fitz's which is also a working root beer bottling company. ( floats and burgers are awesome). For fancy, Tony's and Al's are both downtown but very pricey.

The historic district of St Charles is a great place to shop and grab a bite to eat also. Trailhead brewing and Lewis and Clark's are both good. There at several museums in that area to visit also.

Hope you have fun. Very jealous that you have tickets. Go Cardinals!

Anyone coming to St Louis should check out the City Museum, it's unlike anything you've ever seen! You can't miss it, it's the only building downtown with a working ferris wheel on the roof! Out front you will see airplanes suspended in mid-air and people crawling through human metal slinkys 40 feet up to get into those planes! It's an awesome experience! Bring knee pads

Just see 3 Cards wins and send them to the World Series again -- that should be plenty of FUN!!!

Most of the time when we visit we have the kids so it's generally family things that we do. The Zoo is free and just a little north of downtown and there is lots to do in Forrest Park (where the zoo is located).

The Arch is nice to see and check out the view from the top in....especially on a clear day.

There is are also tours at Anheuser Busch, which I think are free....but it's been a long time since I've been on one.

There are a couple of casino's near downtown as well.

If you like BBQ -- check out this place. It gets very crowded so get there early, but it is VERY good. http://www.pappyssmokehouse.com/ It's an easy drive up Olive Street from downtown.

Bring a poncho! Big rain and cold front coming through at game time! There is a rally I think at Kiener Plaza downtown, it is in the middle of the city in front of the old courthouse. Good sports bars downtown, Rooftop 360 bar (I want today on the Marriott but I could be wrong, J Bucks is a block or two toward the west of the stadium towards union station ( union station is pretty empty anymore, but there is a Hard Rock Cafe there) and Mike Shannon's. There might also be something set up at " Ball Park Village aka the big empty lot across the street from the stadium but I am not sure. Hate to say it too be careful where you park there have been lots of car break ins, well more than usual, lately.

I think the weather is supposed to be cloudy, and cool 60 highs the rest of the week. If you love Italian food, go to The Hill neighborhood - great family , realy authentic - have some fresh toasted ravioli! If you go to the arch, buy your tickets online it will save you a a lot of time once you are there, check out the AB Brewery tour, maybe visit a casino in St Charles or Fast Eddies in Alton (21 and over' super cheap really good food with an awesome atmosphere bar) go to forest park it has the zoo (or of the nations best and it is free except for if you want to park in one of the lots) history museum, science center, golf courses, and art museum.

Hello my friend! Have a safe trip!

I lived in St. Louis for 3 years when I was a resident at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Great city!

Here are my picks:

Check out Forest Park, in the heart of downtown. Lots of bike/hiking/running trials, and home of the St. Louis Zoo, Art Museum, Missouri History Museum, the Jewel Box (a greenhouse for flowers), and the Muny Opera, an outdoor amphitheater. The St. Louis Science Center is right across the street.

Also, you might like Grant's Farm. Yes, it was once owned by Ulysses S. Grant, but it is more famous for its current owners, the Busch family of beer brewing fame. You can tour the brewery and see the famous Clydesdales.

As for eats, I recommend Amaghetti's Bakery and Cafe for sandwiches and deli stuff:
http://www.amighettis.com/

You have to experience a Ted Drewes Frozen Custard as well. Go for a "concrete'.

As for restaurants, we used to love Candicci's when it was still in Clayton. Now that they have moved out to Ballwin, it is harder to get there.

Blueberry Hill is a casual place that sometimes has good live music:

For nicer restaurants, I would recommend Tony's in downtown:

or Dominic's on The Hill:

Have a great time!!!

What About Washington Avenue??

If OP is single -- most of the city nightlife is happening on Washington Ave., in the downtown area.

Enjoy the Lou...

If you like the macabre, don't miss the spectacle of the Fountain of Blood.
(Not really, it just looks that way. The fountain in Kiener Plaza is traditionally dyed red if the Cards are in the playoffs. I personally find it seriously creepy-looking.)

I second Pappy's! Their corn is spectacular! Like PP said, get there early or you'll miss out, because once its gone there is no more.

Have a great time! I know my DH would love to be down there, however life has to continue on.

Too funny ... Just saw it while exploring! It reminded me of a film that I saw in Toronto titled "Byzantium"
