Upgrades at the port, I have questions

Ive never done this before. I have seen threads about upgrading but they kind of confuse me. I have been looking at the current pricing, is the difference between what would be available at the time of the sailing and what I paid, be what I would be charged for an upgrade? Or do they give a discount for the upgrade since they haven't sold the cabin?

Also, there are still gty rates available for my cruise. Would there be a chance I might be upgraded from a 7a?

TIA

If you upgrade at the port, the price is a portion of the difference between the category you originally booked and the new category. The actual number varies.

Did you select a specific 7A room? or a 7A GTY? It's always possible to be upgraded (but it doesn't happen as often as it seems to on this board).

I'm sure this has been covered, and it doesn't apply, just curious.

If you have a gty booked, get upgraded (pixiedusted), then want to upgrade at port, is the price difference from the category from which you originally booked the gty or from the pixiedusted (upgraded prior to arrival) category?

Wow! A couple of us asking the same question, at the same time, on different threads!!! Princess Shmoo has her work cut out for her!!

Her reply on the other thread was that the cost difference is from what is originally paid, not the cost of the pixiedusted cabin.

At least you all are reading the other threads, not just posting a question without looking.

Yes, they go from what you orignally booked.

When we booked we just asked for a verandah. We didnt specify. We were assigned the 7A. Hoping for pixie dust. I'll have to check with my roomie to see if she wants to do an upgrade.

We have a 4C, anyone have any thoughts on price upgrading to Concierge at Port?

The price would depend on length of cruise and what type of concierge cabin you are looking to upgrade to.

7 night Eastern, we have a 4C, family ocean view with veranda. Family of 4, DH, DS(17) and DD(14) Looking to keep same room type. When we booked, the upgrade to concierge was quoted at $1204. Anyone think it would be cheaper on board?

Also, can someone point me to where you find what rooms are still available?

The only way to do this would be to do a dummy booking online and see what (if any) rooms are offered to you within the category you are looking for.

I use BJ's website and don't have to book anything. It is user friendly, walks you through the process, but there is no commitment. No $$ information has to be given. Once you pick your room cat, it will show you available rooms, and you can self select. They are live on line with Disney.

I'm thinking this is BJ's wholesale club.... kinda like Costco. On the Costco site, one needs to put in their membership ID to see prices, not sure if this applies to the BJ's wholesale club travel site.

Upgrades at the port are based on what you booked and paid for--essentially you lose the benefit of any pixie dust you may have received.

Cost of upgrades varies....a lot! it is based per cabin, not on number of people. While we used to be able to "guesstimate" pretty accurately, they have thrown in a fudge factor that is messing us up now. I THINK it is the number of cabins available for upgrade. If they only have one concierge cabin available, they'll price it higher than if they have 10, figuring someone will bite at the higher cost. When they have more available, they price them lower, knowing that they need to get more people to jump for them.

www.travel.bjs.com

I went on this site and it does take some navigating, putting in name and e-mail address(I am "john smith")
I got the window up for booking my cruise dates--March 9th Fantasy, and it showed no concierge options, no suite options, etc

So," briarrose 1", does this mean there are no concierge cabins currently available for my sail dates? If so, I guess thinking about an upgrade is a mute point.
