How to over-tip?

In case we run into really good Disney people on the ship, is it better to toss extra cash into the envelope or to go to guest services to have them add it on from our account?

Is there a difference to the crewmembers at all?

You may do it whichever way works best for you. The difference would be that the CM would either get cash or it would be included in the check that is paid out at the endof the cruise.

I usually have guest services do the normal tip charge for everyone and if I feel someone has provided excellent service (which is usually all of them) I add cash.

I had read so much about great service that I took thank you cards to leave for everyone. I wrote personal notes in each and then added cash to the envelope.

We just went to GS and added it, and they charged it to our account

On our first cruise I added cash into the envelope thinking it might be a help (avoiding some kind of taxes, dues, splitting). I later learned that cash might not be appreciated because it can be harder for the CM to spend/use vs the e-payment that they might have going directly back home.

It is easier to just give cash. If you want to add it to the tip cards you have to go wait in line at guest services, fill our a form, and give them back the tip cards that were already printed. We are just going to add extra cash the next time

I always prepay the standard tips and then add extra cash to the envelopes (which almost always happens). On our most recent cruise, we were waiting outside the terminal for our ride to come pick us up and our server came walking up from across the street/parking lot. He and another CM had gone to a local store and were walking back with a couple bags each. He made a point of coming over to us to say goodbye again and wish us well. I have to think that having that extra cash on hand made it easier for him to pick up the quick supplies that he needed while in port.
