Only $700 more than a September cruise isn't bad. September is one of the least expensive months to go.

I'm not surprised or alarmed with the price we got, $3,485, for March. We are holding an 8A room in October '13 for $3,157. To go up only $328 from Fall to Winter is reasonable. You have two more guests, so that would theoretically mean you'd be about $500-$550 more than our Oct '13 cruise, so $700 over a Sept '12 is good IMHO.

However, comparing DCL to the other cruise lines for that week (see my early post, #44), DCL is definitely up there in price.

Not surprised. A Cat. T for 3A/2C for the 6/7/2014 Fantasy is $20,402.60. We passed. This summer we will be doing a 14 night EBTA in a Cat. T, a 9 night Baltic in a suite on another cruise line, a few days in Copenhagen and about a week in Paris... a total of about 30 days out of the country for about that price.

You would have already paid a deposit for your dummy date. I had to pay an extra $49 this morning. Didn't ask, and they didn't say, that I had 3 days. For $49, didn't care.

They did only require the 10% down though.

Correction, make that 400$ difference, we paid around 4600 not 4300.. So that's not bad actually. Our kids are young enough that we can pull them out of school for a week without worrying about them missing tests and such. This is why we are not so concern about dates..mostly a good price!

The quote you gave me was this for the March or May date?

We could get a NCL 8 night Eastern Caribbean for about 4000$.. Departing from NY

I am pretty familiar with cat R pricing and how it has increased in recent years.

For peak times, for family of 5, it is in 30K range (7 night Fantasy) ... about 20K for off peak.

Summer rates for 2014 on Fantasy for T are coming in over 20k for us, we passed. I didn't even ask about cat R this time

Just got off the phone with DCL.. Prices below are 2A2C, WC

May 10, 2014: Cat R: $20,307 Cat T: $10,307
May 24, 2014: Cat R: $24,719 Cat T: $13,169

So, about the same prices we have this year. I just did a check on the 11 May 2013 cruise (the only one that still had Cat T available), Cat T is $10,168. When we sailed on the Fantasy about 2 months ago, the concierge staff told us they sold the last Cat R for 2013 while on the cruise...

I haven't seen many price quotes on here for January, and I'm taking that as a good sign. If less people booked those cruises today, it should help hold the price down tomorrow. The fuller ships will probably be higher. We're looking at January 11th simply beacause we want to spend some time in FL before and the 4th is too close to the holidays. But I could go for the 4th if it was significantly cheaper, or February if it's cheaper too. We're going to be 2A 3C (4, 6, 9) and I think we need a category 8 (or we could do 4 and have verandah, but are going to do oceanview and hope for a cheap upgrade at port).
