Big River or Captain's Grille

which do you prefer? i initially wanted to go to big river on the boardwalk before we go to jellyrolls, but they don't take reservations. being on the deluxe dining plan, i want to make sure i have reservations because i don't want to show up someone only to not get a table and then wind up eating at a counter service place. so i booked us in at the captain's grille for dinner because i figured it's close enough to the boardwalk that we could walk there (i'm assuming?).

which restaurant is better? and if i'm going to be there in early february do you think i will be able to walk up to big river and get a table for two without much of a wait?

We have never eaten at Captain's Grill. We have eaten at Big River twice. The first time, it was great. It was not busy. We called them and made a reservation directly about 2 weeks before. I am not sure if they still do that.
The second time was not that good, but I think it was mainly because it started pouring and everyone decided to go there at the same time. The place was packed with a 45 min wait.
I think you will be fine in February. I would call and see if they still take reservations over the phone.

We ate at the Captains Grille

two weeks ago and it was wonderful! My wife had the strip steak and I had the chefs selection with a crab cake, grilled crusted cod and the chocolate cake for desert....I will go again!

I've never eaten on Captain's Grill so I can't comment on that. Big River doesn't do Disney reservations but they do priority seating if you call them directly. They don't take reservations but will give you priority placement on their list. Better than walk ups. It tends to get crowded later in the evenings and much more crowded on the weekends. We've eaten there twice. Their beers are really good... Typical bar/pub food and atmosphere. Service was great both times we went.
We've enjoyed our times there.
