A comparison of January room only vs Stay Play and Dine discount

I thought it might be helpful to show the differences between the room only and stay play and dine discounts that came out today for next year. All quotes include the following:

CBR 1/21 - 1/27, 2 Adults, no kids (six nights, standard view double bed)
7 day Park hopper tickets (no water park or other extras)
Standard Dining package (1 full, 1 quick, 1 snack per day per person per day)
No insurance (we buy that separately)

Rack: $2531

Using Room only discount: $2193

Using Stay Play and Dine: $1945

Stay play and dine saved us nearly $250 off the room only discount for our vacation, and nearly $600 off the rack rate. Of course, if your are not buying a dining package, room only would probably be the way to do go

We are staying at POR 1/10-1/16 with a Royal room standard view. Two adults and 2 children. Five day base tickets and no dining was:

2282.00
RO dicount would save us 334.00
S/D/P discount would save us 637.00
We went for the latter with a total of 2416.00

I'm curious about dining and children; my DD's are 14 and 12 at the time of travel ,so I am assuming they are considered adults under the dining plan. If they were younger would the dining plan be cheaper? When is a child considered an adult price?

The adult price for dining and tickets starts at age 10.

Thanks! do you know how much it goes up? I am actually kind of glad they are considered adults with the dining plan because my kids started liking the adult menu years ago! They would say, "do I have to eat another hotdog, I really want the tilapia?" "yes dear, you must eat the junk!"

Can someone tell me if this seems right? This is what the website is telling me.

Stay play dine
January 21-26 at the Poly
6 days basic park tickets
2 adults, 1 2-year-old
= $3066

Everything the same, but room only, plus park tickets (just no dining)
= $2159

That means the regular dining plan will cost us $907 for 2 adults for 5 days. That's $90 a day *each*. It doesn't even cost that much normally!

The spd doesn't work well for me, as I'm a solo with an AP who wanted to stay deluxe. Even dropping the ticket requirement as low as it will go and considering what I budget for OOP food, I still make out about $1000 better with the RO than with the spd.

That's why it's so important for everyone to do the math on all the deals to see what works best for you.

we were originally booked at AoA but when the discounts came out last week I called to see if we would be able to stay at the Polynesian since it seemed like the discounts were so good. With the stay play and dine we were quoted $4664.38 and then with the room only, still with dining and tickets, we were quoted $4039.10. That amount was only $300 more than what we were paying for our package at AoA so we switched! so yay for the room discounts!

The room discounts works out better for us staying at a deluxe. even with 35% discount instead of 40% we used to get.

Room only in lagoon/pool view with 7 day hoppers and dxdp is $3872

SPD pricing system keeps showing me it is down right now...but it appears that would be more $$ anyways for you because it was already at $3600+ before I tried adding hoppers and dx dining upgrade...then it crashed.

I got 3120 with room only and tickets without a discount so paying rack rate the S/P/D is good but since you are two adults with a 2yr old you are better with a room discount then paying OOP for food. Probably unlikely you will spend $900 for food for just two of you. The DDP doesn't cost you that per day it's just that you wouldn't be paying rack rate for the room since you would be getting a 35% discount.
2 adults/1 2yr old
Poly with 35% room discount
6 day base ticket
DDP=2715.28
