MA April Vacation airfare (jetblue in particular)
for those who usually travel during MA april vacation week, what do you generally pay for your flights?
i'm looking at april 2013 flights and they are ridiculous! over $800 per person. we never travel during school vacations but unfortunately we have no choice in 2013. do you think it's safe to expect the fares to drop, at least somewhat?

We have the same weeks vacation and paid approx. $350 per person in April of 2012. Flew out of Bradley to MCO, direct flight. We left the Thursday before vacation and came home Sunday.
Just be diligent in watching the flights everyday. |

I agree the ticket prices are very high right now, we too are traveling for April vacation & are holding out for something cheaper. The thought of paying more for airfare than the Disney Cruise is making me think of changing the cruise & pulling the kids out of school!

If you were able to leave on the Thurs before vacation or even the Monday of vacation the fare are cheaper and the same with the return. You may just have to play with the dates to see what comes up cheapest. Are you able to use another airport. LaGuardia has some good prices for JetBlue as does White Plains.

Rates will stay high. Even when they've come down for the April break in the past few years it was from plain ridiculous to just nosebleed, for example from $900 to $750. And they haven't come down until very shortly before travel dates to fill up any empty seats, just too late for most people to make plans.
Definitely play with your dates a little. Tix that were approx. $620 shortly after they were posted are now over $800 and will just get higher. Try PVD too, not just Boston. |

Hi All,
I ran into the same issue. Coming from Framingham, MA for April vacation. Opening day prices on JetBlue were $820 Rt for Boston to Orlando. Looked at Providence, Manchester and even Portland, Maine. They were not much better and didn't line up with our plans. Since I have friends in New York, I happened to know that New York doesn't share the same vacation as Massachusetts. So we are driving to JFK and flying from there. About a 3 hour drive, but we got the tickets for $270 instead of $820. I don't begrudge the airlines a little more profit on vacation weeks, but it seemed that this year was really bad. |

The driving to NY might be our best deal, the tickets so cheap, we have enough hotel points to stay a few extra nights before the cruise for free as the prices for Portland, Manchester, Boston, Providence & Hartford are crazy!

You have to check the airfare everyday...Im flying in Nov and began looking 2 months ago, over the 2 months the prices went from 180.00 to 130.00, but that was really from day to day. I found the prices lowest around 10pm on Monday nights. But it goes up and down, if you watch it, and it is always around 180, and then you see a drop, you need to grab it.

Thanks everyone. i know it's still early but the fares went up again. it's $900+ per person. We went on a cruise last march and didnt purchase airfare until January.
our dcl cruise this year is april vacation week in Ma but I don't want to wait until jan. we have until jan to pay the cruise balance but will be paying it off in december to take advantange of the dcl concierge benefits. i knew the rates would be higher than we normally pay b/c we never travel vacation weeks, but this is ridiculous. i have a jet blue credit so really want to fly with them. here's to hoping they drop a bit. time will tell. ![]()

Is April vacation for MA the week of the 15th this year? We are in NH and are traveling, DCL, the following week. Patiently waiting for SWA to come out for our air 4/20-4/27.
