The first time we saw the headless horseman it was slightly wet and we were very surprised that Disney let him ride.

We also were surprised that Disney does this. While it has a great reward, it seems there is a lot of risk.

Imagine how kids would be traumatized if the horse (or rider) were seriously injured during a fall.

Perhaps they should put borium shoes on the horse. It offers traction on slick surfaces.

I'd not be surprised if they have already done that (or similar.)

What they have on their shoes is better them borium (it what the Amish use it on their horses that pull their buggies) but it does not eliminate the problem totally.

We were in Frontierland last night and the Horseman went by us and we weren't aware that anthing happened just past us. There was no noise or fuss. The parade continued on schedule.

Oh no! How scary that must have been. I'm glad to hear neither the rider nor the horse were injured.

Where did the horse and rider go after the tumble? They did not come back to the Frontierland parade starting entrance, did the horse or horse and rider finish the route?

I can't imagine it would be easy to get back on the horse in that costume without a platform or stand.

In one of the videos posted above, you can see the horse trotting down the street with no rider. I have no idea what happened after that, though. I would guess a CM grabbed the horse.

Yikes! That must've been scary. Glad everyone is okay. It rained the night we were there and the horseman didn't ride. I was bummed we didn't get to see him but totally understood the safety issues. I'd never want to see them put the horse or the rider at risk.

That's horrible!!! I hope the horse and rider fared well. Imagine how bad it could have been if the horse was injured and spooked with all of those people everywhere....goodness...

Poor guy. You can't see him fall in these videos, but in the first one you can hear the gasp of the audience when he falls offscreen.

Looks like someone booked an early trip to the glue factory.

The horse is trained to go from point A (beginning of parade route) to point B (end of route) WITHOUT the need for the rider to actually ride him. In fact, with the nature of the costume, the rider does very little in the way of influencing the horse in any way. So if the rider fell off, the horse would continue on to the end of the route as he had been trained to do.

As to the previous posters "glue factory" comment. First, gross. Second, not even remotely likely.
