T-Rex-How's the food?

I am contemplating T-Rex at DTD on our arrival day. I think my young kids will get a kick out of it but, I'm wondering if the food is okay? Any input would be great!

The food at T-Rex is decent. It's generally on par with the other restaurants around the world. I feel like it does have a good range of food items and price points. We've gone there four consecutive years and have reservations to go again in December. Our daughter is a dino fanatic, so it's a must do. Whenever we ask our kids where they want to eat at DWD, T-Rex is the first suggestion. My wife and I might prefer to go somewhere else at DTD, but our kids love it so much we can't skip it.

We go a few times a yr! My DH insists! He loves the chicken fried steak and I love the footprints flatbread and cottontini!

We love all the sounds and lights, fish tanks, animatronics!

We ate there twice on our recent visit. We stuck with steak - it was really good. Stay away from the garlic mashed potatoes, though, unless you reaaaallly love garlic.

I have reviews for both visits in my dining report (link in my siggy line) if you're interested in reading.

The food is good and the portions are huge! We've eaten there 3 times! We tried the Rotiserrie chicken pot pie, the grilled mahi-mahi (requested plain), French onion soup, cheese dip and chips, ribs & mashed potatoes, very good as were the drinks! I had a frozen mohito and it was tasty! Now we share appetizers and entrees!

I signed up for this board just to reply....

Our 4 year old is a dino lover so we thought T-Rex would be a fun treat. As soon as we walked in she was TERRIFIED. The theming is really good, but as fair warning it is crazy loud and the dinos are huge! Definitely not of the Dinosaur Train variety. I only mention it because I noticed in your sig that your kids are young. I have no idea about the food -- we left immediately. The host was very nice about it -- I'm guessing it happens sometimes. Hope that helps -- we'll try it again in a few years.

I would second that. We didnt go there but we have friends who went with their DD 5 and DS 4. They said that the theming is amazing (almost too amazing for her kiddos). Her DD was okay but DS screamed. They sat thinking he would be okay but after getting their drinks they knew he wasnt going to stop so out they went. I think it looks like lots of fun and know my brother would have been fine so just depends on your little ones. Have a great trip

Our Ratings of Rain Forest Café & T-Rex Cafés:
. . . food price value: C
. . . food quality: B
. . . food quantity per serving: B
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: D
. . . eatery atmosphere: A
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: A
. . . character interaction: B (animatronic)

NOTE: The large portions are pretty much commiserate with the large
price. However, one is paying a premium for the atmosphere of Rain Forest
or T-Rex. The environment and animatronic are clever and amuse most
kids, as well as many adults. The Chocolate Volcano dessert at Rainforest
and Chocolate Extinction dessert at T-Rex are adventures. For the high
price, many people expect far better food/service and are disappointed.
We think the food and service are above average, plus we enjoy the theming
and theatrics. We don't actually eat meals there often, but prefer to go for
drinks in the bars and have an order of the plentiful munchies.

We enjoy the food at T-REX. It is pricey, butch most food at Disney is. I had the steak/ribs combo and it was almost too much for me to eat.

We ate at T Rex when we was at WDW in sept. the food was good. Huge portions. Dessert was really good!! However if it wasn't for having the disney dining plan we probably wouldn't have ate there because it can get exspensive!

I've been once and enjoyed it. I had a pasta dish that was delicious...though I had been in the parks all day, and everything tastes better when you're tired/hungry! My friends enjoyed their burger and salad as well. The theming is definitely fun, but as PP's mentioned, it can be dark and scary for little ones. There are some videos on YouTube if you'd like to get a feel for it beforehand; just search "T Rex Cafe Downtown Disney."

We had an ADR there for our arrival night this past June... We loved it so much we went back a few days later after a particularly long and tiring park day. The was food was really good and plentiful. I looooved the Layers of the Earth Lasagna, and they have a Balsamic Chicken Flatbread that is to die for. Also, my 3 year old niece was fine with the animatronic dinos, and the dark atmosphere, she loved it. It can get dark and loud, but hey you're at Disney lol. I say go for it!

Just trying to figure out your ratings how can "food price value" be a C when "food quality" and "food quantity per serving" are both B's?
