Would Opening Weekend Be a Mistake?
Hi All,
I wasn't sure I should post this so I figured I would go straight to the experts. ![]() My twins' preschool is closed on December 10th and 11th. I personally prefer going to Disney when it's not Christmastime because I love the park to look like the park and I like hearing all the Disney music as opposed to Christmas music, etc. so I wouldn't want to do a weeklong trip around the holidays. BUT...we have a 7 year old and 3 year old twins and I would love for them to experience Disney at Christmas (especially this year since all 3 are into the holidays and my son doesn't yet question Santa so it's all still magical). Since I need to take personal days on those dates anyhow, I have been working on convincing myself to make a quick long weekend trip to Disney. I was just about to book it when I noticed the Fantasyland expansion is scheduled to open to the public that weekend. Would it be a huge mistake to go then? I was planning to stay at the POLY and spend most of the time at MK (maybe a day at EPCOT). I would love to hear your opinions. If it matters we are coming from MA so we would need to fly. I was planning on doing Saturday morning through Tuesday afternoon. So we would be at MK Sunday and Monday. Thanks in advance. |

That is still one of the slowest times at Disney/one of the most recommended visiting times. So maybe if there is an extra "push" of people, it will equate to average park attendance? I say go for it!

It will be crowded but I think it will still be worth going. Monday might be less busy in mk than Sunday because of locals that might want to get a look on the weekend.

I'd go in with the mindset that it has the potential to be VERY crowded. Disney has been marketing things for quite some time now so I anticipate the crowd levels to be significantly higher than normal. If this is something that you are okay with, go for it.

This. ^ I think it's going to be crowded, although I do think it depends a little if Disney makes a big thing about a "Grand Opening" like Carsland...they might tone the opening down some, even though they are heavily marketing the new stuff. A totally clueless friend of mine bought tickets for MVMCP for Dec. 4th, the actual opening day...it's his daughter's first trip to Disney, I think he's going to regret going that day.

Thats up to you. With the New Test Track and Fantasyland opening, I think people will be SHOCKED at the crowd levels. If you have the time, then GO. If you dont like the decorations and christmas music , heck I would hold off for another time.
