walking distance hotels?
I am planning on going to DL this summer, but I don't want to have to pay for parking everyday. (oh the life of a poor student.. ha ha) I am wondering if anyone knows of good hotels that are (ideally inexpensive) and are withing walking distance to the park? Thanks!!

One thing to consider.... If a hotel away from the park is $15 cheaper, then it is cheaper to drive and park... I think Red Lion has a few specials going on.

We always stay at the Super 8 on Katella. 15 minute walk but way cheaper than the alternatives!

Most the hotels within walking distance have a parking fee so it really breaks even either way. If you are on a budget you might want to stay somewhere that has free breakfast and parking and take the shuttle in. That's what we are doing this time.

I like the Motel 6 on Katella. I walked to and from every day. It was about 10 minutes in the morning and 15 at night when I was tired. Pictures of the room are in my trip report linked in my signature. The rooms are large and VERY clean, and I paid under $50 a night in May.

Hojo's is walking distance (8 minutes?) and parking is free there!
Most of the other hotels on harbor that are within walking distance charge parking so figure that into the room price. We have stayed at Best Western Park Place Inn though their prices seem to have gone up so we haven't stayed there in a few years. We've also stayed at Desert Inn and Suites. |

Hopefully someone will post (or you can search up) a map of the area with the 'walkable' and 'shuttle-distance' hotels highlighted. I've seen that here.
The ART shuttle is like $3/day (I think) so don't count out the places with shuttle access. If you look at LastMinuteTravel, it's pretty easy to identify the 'secret' hotels from their photos or number of Trip Advisor reviews. |

Thanks, Bob!
On that map, I believe the Anaheim Maingate is now the Red Lion. And I *think* the area next to it is the Toy Story parking lot, which has a free shuttle. |

I stayed at Stovall's Inn. It took me 20 minutes to walk to Disneyland at a leisurely pace. I did cut through Disney's Grand Californian most of the time though. I think it was about 30 minutes if I didn't... but it was a much farther walk... and I got lost. 4/5 days I even went back to my room for midday break and walked back. But if your feet are tired or sore ART is right outside.

I did this a couple of weeks ago and it worked great for me. I found the Red Lion on Last Minute travel for $72 a night and used the Toy Story parking lot to walk to and got on the Disney buses. It took me 5 minutes to walk to the bus and it was great during the 95 degree weather! I also took them back to the hotel, it was perfect.
