For those who knew WDW around '76...

Does anyone remember an outdoor shopping mall called Lake Buena Vista that was on Disney property?

My mom is convinced that this used to exist, but I have no idea what she's talking about!

Is that what Downtown Disney used to be called?

ETA: If it's the same as the current LBV outdoor mall, it's an outlet mall.

Thanks! That's what I thought (that it was the beginnings of Downtown Disney). I know there was the Disney World Village, but I didn't know it used to be called Lake Buana Vista Shopping Village before that!

Interesting!

I like how it started out as residential shopping district intended to serve the planned residences within the Walt Disney World property. I guess at the time the whole I-4 corridor was still a swamp and in order to get people to live there they would have to build supermarkets and drug stores and the like.

Are there any book on this? Kind of like that Epcot was going to be a city.

Yes I remember the shopping area at Lake Buena Vista, I was there before it expanded and became DTD. It was small quaint with flowers and shrubs etc,. the Empress Lily was there for the Mickey Character Breakfast.. I look back now and realize how much has changed over the years.

We always stayed at Ft. Wilderness campgrounds during those early days.. Thanks for bringing back memories!
