I'm still squirrelling away money for our trip. ALthough I did win $30-odd in Tuesday's OzLotto the $30M I was hoping to win last night just didn't happen
![]() I'm still deliberating over the southern road trip or drive to Chicago and fly to Montana. After looking at what we want to do in Orlando after the cruise and the time we have left before getting to Montana for Christmas I'm worrying we won't have enough time. So we're wondering if we just have Christmas on the road and be in Montana for New Year's or severely cut the road trip part. Still waiting for flights to open up to see the prices yet though. But I also hope to find more work this year to pay for it all

I hear you on that! My Aus-US flights are booked and paid for but I'm a week or two from being able to book my first internal flights. And I want to get on with it so I know my magic express luggage handling etc is locked in lol.

Our return dates are a month prior to yours, 2 - 27 December. Different airlines open up at different times too, before they did their recent changes Virgin opened before AirNZ, but now I notice AirNZ's flights can be booked earlier than Virgin's. I only booked a couple of weeks ago, as soon as AirNZ opened (almost to the hour lol!).

Just playing with the AirNZ website I can book with a return date as late as the 19th of Jan. Virgin, up to the 30th of Dec.

It stops in at Auckland. But I'm from NZ originally so it's kind of like a quick visit home (even if only the airport lol), and I've booked skycouch, and I'm looking at it as a nice break in a long flight for kids (the actual flying time is only an hour more than direct), and it's a night flight which works well for the kids too so I'm looking at it as a win/win situation. The flights were cheaper than direct too. It's possible that between now and then there'll be sales, but I don't imagine what I could save is worth more than the peace of mind of knowing we're booked at a price I'm happy with now kwim.
Better than me somehow stuffing up and being forced to pay $9,000 closer to the end of the year lol!
