We have done chef mickeys many times, the most recent being last November 2011. If it is your first trip to Disney, I feel (my opinion) that it is a "must do" at least once. All the main characters are there in chef attire (Minnie, Pluto, goofy, Donald, mickey), and as of last trip, they sing this song during the meal and everyone swings their napkins in the air and sings too. So fun! Your kids will love it. Then on your next trip, (you will love Disney so much that you WILL have another trip) :-)
you cam try tusker house for character breakfast!

Characters were great, food was gross, and the buffet was filthy.

We won't be going

for the first time in several trips. It is more of a "we want to do something else" decision.

I like the challah french toast, cheesy potatoes, fresh fruit and sausage. That's enough to fill me up. I'm a bit disappointed that they strawberries in syrup rather than fresh strawberries.

A couple of trip ago we switched to late morning ADRs. We liked it a lot better than earlier ones. The character interaction was better and we waited a shorter period for them to come around.

We've been many times...breakfast and dinner. The characters will rush by unless you interact with them. We've had characters come by more than once, even though they knew they'd already been by our table. Our DD loves it, but when she was younger she really thought Mickey made the food! The birthday song and the character interaction is all what you make of it. Kids love it!

I think sometimes expectations are too high for all the Disney restaurants, especially with the prices. This is not a signature restaurant, so don't expect food at that level. But, it is a decent buffet. We've always found more than enough items to eat and enjoy. It is one of our favorite character buffets...actually the only one that we still always go to.

The picture that they take of your family after check-in is always a favorite for us, but we are suckers for all those pictures. It is a cute photo and a nice memento.

Plus, if you aren't staying at the Contemporary, it's cool to see the monorail going through the resort. Don't forget to look for the five legged goat on the mosaic wall!!

You should go, have fun and interact with the characters. I bet you'll have a great time. Let us know when you get back what you thought.

We enjoyed it when we went for dinner on our first family trip. The wait was long, but the kids loved the atmosphere when we sat down to eat. They liked it so much that I told them they could pick one place to eat on this trip and that was their choice (although we switched from dinner to breakfast for this one).

Of the times we've gone it was bad and we decided not to go back. However, I do feel that it is somewhere you should go at least once.

We don't enjoy Chef Mickeys. Well, except for DD, who enjoyed eating gummie bears at breakfast (the one and only time she has ever done that). The characters seemed a bit rushed and took a long time to circle around to us. That said, that was OUR experience. It won't hold true for everyone. If Chef Mickeys appeals to your family, I would say to give it a try.

We have had no trouble with the characters or the food. The only trouble we have is that it's really loud which, as adults, is sometimes really annoying. But we like meeting Mickey and the gang over breakfast and do it every trip.

We ate there in April and it was one of our favorite meals (breakfast). We will definitely try dinner next time. The grandkids had a great time and the characters were terrific - not rushed as many have indicated. It is probably just luck whether you have a good or bad experience. Many meals at Disney have been delightful one time and disgusting the next. You just never know!

Here is my question: Will your children eat? .

My kids loved meeting the Big 5 but it is noisy and the food is par maybe even below par a little.

Since you have never been there and have 3 children under the age of 10, I would say go for the character interactions especially if you are on the dining plan.

If you are not on the plan, it really may not be worth the extra 200 or so dollars that they will get you for breakfast. My son ate a bagel and my daughter had a bowl of cereal. It was not economically worth it for us.

I agree with this. We went to Chef Mickey on our 2nd trip because it was something we wanted to experience. We didn't go for the food. The food was very dissapointing for us, even though we didn't have high expectations to begin with and we don't plan to return. If you're looking for good food and the Mickey characters, the breakfast at Tusker House in AK is fantastic. But if you want the classic Chef Mickey experience, I would give it a try and decide for yourself. The reservations wouldn't be so hard to get if there weren't lots of people who do love it.

I love Chef Mickey's! It's an absolutely must do on every trip! My nephews (ages 10 & 6) and niece (4 yrs) LOVE it there as well! The character interaction is great and it's super fun for them to wave their napkins in the air. I do like the food at dinner better than breakfast, but breakfast is fine (better than breakfast at 'Ohana IMO)
