Early flight from Barcelona to Rome on day we disembark

So I'm looking @ flights and we can fly to Rome @ either 9:45 AM or wait and not fly until later in the day @ 2:45 PM. I'd hate to loose so much time by not flying to Rome until 2:45, but am concerned about not being able to make the 9:45 flight. Do you think it's just too risky to try for 9:45?

I would not risk it. Having cruised out of Barcelona a few times 9:45 is razor close and since DCL is not docking until 7:00 a.m. and still has to clear customs I would highly doubt you could make that flight. Barcelona airport is new (within the last few years ) and isn't too bad to rest before your flight. Happy cruising.

Thanks! That's what I'm thinking. The last DCL Med cruise we did in `07, we stayed on in Barcelona after the cruise. Guess we'll debate the merits of staying over night in Barcelona and flying to Rome early the next day or just go to Rome straight away; which is probably what we'll do.

There is an 11:45 flight on alitalia to rome, if that would be better. That is the one I am going to book.

Hmmmmmm...I'll look into that one, thanks! We're planning on flying Swiss Air for everything since they are partners w/ United, but maybe Alitalia would work for that segment. Thanks for the 411!

I adore Swiss, I have recommended them to everyone I know, but they just can't beat the price of Alitalia for me this time. The price difference even covers me spending a couple of nights in Rome with my family before our cruise. I am just waiting for the booking window to open. The prices were even lower for June when they opened, so good luck!

Do you know if they have baggage fees? W/ being Million Milers on United, we do not have any baggage fees & we get more for the baggage weight limit, so if we'd have to pay baggage fees &/or excess weight fees for Alitalia, that might eat into any savings we'd get by choosing them over Swiss.

one bag up to 23 kilograms is free, that's all I know, I don't know if excess is charged by piece or pound or percentage of fare.

I just looked it up, 2nd piece will cost 55 euro.

Yeah, but if each of the 4 of us can check 1 bag for free @ 50 pounds, it may still work for us to fly them. I'm definitely going to discuss this option w/ my husband. Thanks again!
