First night dinner..Portobello?
We are arriving at around 7:30-7:45ish ( flight lands at 5:45p) at POR on our first night. I don't want to get another park day pass just for a dinner ressie, but I want it to be special! At the same time, we can't be out too late because we have to be up early for DHS! Our trip is only 5 weeks away, so most of the more popular (O'hana, Chef Mickey's) are n/a now. We could take the boat to DTD and just eat and leave..but how far is Portobello from the boat dock? Too far? Our kids aren't little..they could walk...but is it really far? I can't tell by the map. Or any other suggestions?

There is a dock behind Paradiso 37. This is your best bet. It's the closest to Portabello. I'm not sure if the Sassagoula River Cruise will stop directly at the Paradiso 37 dock so you may have to get off at the dock by CaptainJacks and take the internal water taxi to the Paradiso 37 dock. Someone with a little more knowledge will have to help me out here...

I cannot attest to the current accuracy of the information, but this site covers the topic pretty comprehensively:

First Night Dinner
We will be arriving Sat night around same time. We will be going over to Ragland Road. Fantastic food and entertainment. Boat ride away from your resort. This is our routine every time we fly in at night. Have a great time.

You can surely walk- it is an easy walk in DTD.
I would also suggest dining at Boatwrights in POR. We have eaten there many times while staying there, and I think it is underrated. The food is cozy, reasonable, and close! Whatever you decide, enjoy! |

It certainly is within walking distance. Fulton's is nextdoor which is another option. No offense but on the first night of a WDW trip I would view a hearty walk as a warm up for what portends for the remainder of the trip. There is certain to be a lot more walking that will far exceed the walk to Portobello.
