....somehow I doubt if there are any baseball players that will fault Steinbrenner. In fact, many probably will PRAISE him for his ground-breaking influence on free agancy...

[BTW ~ Steinbrenner signed Dave Winfield to a 10-year, $23 million contract in 1985; Reggie Jackson got the $3 mil deal.....]

....well, I certainly [and sincerely] appreciate that.....all this thread was meant to do was for baseball fans to give a shout-out to their beloved teams, is all.... and, as for calling Yankees fans 'gutless', well, then technically if a fan has 'no guts' to root for a team, go speed skating, start a water polo team, ski the Swiss Alps, or WHATEVER, that IS calling them 'gutless'.....the truth of the matter is, it DOES take guts to root for a team like the Yankees, when there are so many 'haters' there that lash out at a team and/or its fans or affiliates. So many times I've turned the other cheek, but when it goes 'overboard', welllllll.......

Dave Winfield didn't win a WS with the Yankees, so whatever money they spent on him didn't help win a championship..

I like them because they're my hometown team, (or close enough) and because my mom brought me up watching Yankee baseball.
In reality, isn't that the reason most people root for a team? Proximity and what your parents watched. Usually not much deeper than that. LOL that's why I never understand why people care about who likes what team. If I'd be born in Boston, I'm sure I'd be a Red Sox fan today.
