cel phone 1991 or 1992 I think. Before I graduated from HS.

I only knew 1 friend in HS that had internet. We were all amazed by it.

I got AOL dial up in maybe 1996 or 1997.

By 2001 we had broadband service. My mom didn't get internet until 2006 or 2007!

Internet by far. Remember surfing the web (and being amazed by it) in the early 90s (93?); but my dad used to dial in to "bulletin boards" and "newsgroups" with the modem prior to that.

I didn't get my first cell phone till 2002. My toddler son and I were going on a road trip while DH stayed home. He decided we needed one at that point.

We got internet in 1999 and cellphones in 2004. We were late to both parties it seems....

My mum and dad have had mobile phones since the mid 90s and I think the internet since the late 90s.

Cell Phone. I guess.

If you count those HUGE mobile phones that came in a zip-up case, 1997.
I think we had the internet in 1999, but we let it go after a three month trial. It was dial-up and absolutely useless.

1996 - Met my wife and she had a cell phone. A whopping 25 minutes per month.

1997 - Married her, but she had gotten rid of the cell phone.

1998 - Went online the first time with AOL. As was mentioned in the beginning of this thread, you had X hours. I can remember logging on, loading up multiple instances of IE (way prior to tabs in browsers) and shutting down to save the hours.

1999 - FreeI-Internet or something like that came out. Free internet!!! Slow as molasses and half the screen was taken up by an ad banner, but I quickly learned how to end task stuff and reopen IE to surf without the ad banner.

2000 - Moved out to our first house further out in the country. No internet. Heck, I think we were lucky to have home phone service.

Sometime between here we got a Tracfone. Had it for a little bit off and on.

2005 - Finally have internet service, but still dialup.

2006 - Phone company changed ownership from Sprint to Embarq. Finally had DSL available, 1.5mb. Changing my basic phone package to a package that had call waiting, caller ID and such got me internet for the same cost per month. Still paying long distance fees.

2009 - New phone package available, finally have unlimited long distance service and 10mb DSL. Cost is still the same and the same to this day.

2010 - Right after we went to Disney, we picked up 2 new Tracfones. Went on the family monthly plan, $15/month.

2011 - Around Christmas time I was looking at different pre-paid phones. Figured out the confusing AT&T GoPhone and bought 2 Android phones for Christmas. Almost a year on these phones now. Costs me $10-20/month depending on how much we text.

Cell phone about 1995- DH got it for me (weren't married yet) for the drives back and forth from college. First he got me a CB radio- well that did come in handy when I heard on there about a tornado ahead. I just kept the phone in the car mostly and it was used very little.

I started college in 1994 and I knew there was something called internet, but I really didn't use it. In the basement of one of the buildings they had email machines- that's all they did. I emailed a couple of friends at other colleges once or twice. I don't know when my dad got internet- we were always up on the computer stuff, starting with a Vic20 that used a cassette player, then a Commodore 64, so he probably got it once our little mutual telephone company offered it.

Once we were married and in a home we got dial-up- sometime in the late 90's. I had Juno email so you had to dial a long distance number to send and receive. You wanted to type your outgoing emails before you dialed. We didn't get DSL until maybe 2006? We were told at one time that DSL only went 5 miles out of town and we were 6. Then an acquaintance told me to ask again as things may have changed. That was wonderful to get!

We definitely had internet first. Dh was a graduate student and had some way to get free access. We didn't pay for internet service for a good 5 years
We got our first cellphone as a gift from my MIL. It was like $100 an entire year of service, before contracts were out. I think I still have that phone packed away somewhere in the garage.

Internet, definitely. Free Internet -- NetZero dialup. I think it was in early 1999.

We didn't get cell phones until about 2002 or 2003.

Internet first, in 1996 or early 1997. It was free through DH's work and very limited. Dial up and slow as can be!

DH had a cell phone for work for years, but we finally in 2003 got DD one for her 18th birthday and I got the 2nd line for next to nothing. Still have the same #'s.

Started using bulletin boards in 1992 and moved to AOL a few years later (talk about expensive bills until AOL moved to unlimited).

Got my first cell phone when I was 15 in Spring 1995 just before I got my car for my 16th birthday. My car had a carphone installed from the dealership as well.

Internet first. We have had it over 20 years. The cell phone was a few years later.

I *think* we had a BAG phone first. Then we got internet (AOL dial up) around 1999- when we got our NEW computer- our FIRST computer. My dad bought it for us- because it was a few thousand dollars if I remember correctly.

I can't remember when we got actual cell phones. I think it might have been around 2000 or so. My phone was huge, and my DH bought me a Mickey Mouse cover for it!
