Not wanting to hijack this thread, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Christmas special for Call the Midwife recently. It was great. Another good British series.
Big fan of Downton, but Call the Midwife is my big fave. The Christmas special was a complete surprise treat to me & we really enjoyed it!

We preferred Call the Midwife to Downton this christmas. At least it was cheerful! The story was really touching. I really hope that a new series comes on soon. I don't know where Downton is going storyline wise.

When will it be broadcast in the US? Are you all just starting on season 3? Season 3 was pretty devastating too. I'm very paranoid not to mention what happens to spoil everyone's surprise, though

I watched season 3. It was good. My husband bought the DVDs from Amazon UK for Christmas.

I, for sure, wouldn't spoil any of the upcoming events for people. Even though I had heard in the news what was going to happen on the Christmas episode it was still shocking to see. I think what makes Downton such a great show is not necessarily the plot itself, but the interaction between all the characters. That is why I don't mind if I come across a spoiler or two.

DH got me the first 2 seasons on blu ray for christmas. It was a series people had been telling me was so good and that i would love.

I had nothing to do on new years so I put a disk in and then spent the next 20 or so hours on the couch watching the whole thing.

I can't belive how good this series is and can't wait until season 3 starts around here. I hope that we can get series 4 at the same time as the UK. Highly unlikely but a girl can dream.

My DH and I just started watching this week. We got season 1 and 2 and will be taping 3. DH is out of town and it's killing me not to watch while he is gone.

Does anyone have a link to watch the Season Three Christmas special online? I've been poking around the putlocker & sock share, but cannot find that episode & I'm dying to know what the sad shock is. The final episode of season three was bad enough, I can't imagine what else would have made the Christmas ep even sadder.

I can't wait to see season 3!
I watch it on the PBS app. The book "Below Stairs" (insiration for show) is a great read also. I wish it told more!

Call the Midwife was a great show also. I want to read the book it's based on.

Another to watch is called Land Girls. It's from the mid-1990s I believe. I borrowed it from my library, 3 seasons.

I love BBC!! I would happily pay for access to the BBC. Dh is watching Whitechapel right now.

We are watching Season 1 on Netflix right now! One more episode tonight. Is the only way to see Season 2 on DVD? I wish Netflix had it, I hate to start watching Season 3 before Season 2.
