I'm a latecomer to this thread. I didn't watch DA until this weekend, and I came across it on Hulu. Well, between Saturday and Tuesday I watched all the episodes (Season 3 on the PBS website). I am completely hooked now. I cried like crazy about Sybil. I loved her character!!

Sybil's passing was very painful and was a shock for me. I hate spoilers, been over to imdb boards and have to very careful of spoilers because it's shown in UK a wk. earlier. I believe Cora will have a hard time forgiving his lordship.

The entire season was finished on Dec 27th (?) in the UK.
Just a heads up.
I'd stay away from anywhere it might be spoiled.

I purchased season 3 on DVD yesterday and watched the rest of it last night. I won't spoil anything but I will be watchingthis thread. I only started watching about 3 weeks ago and now own all three seasons.

I read somewhere that PBS is trying to bring season four to the US sooner. Hopefully it will start around the same time as the UK

I will try to find the link when I get home

Found the link:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...n_2249739.html

And (sadly) the update: spoiler alert
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_2480826.html

We still have to wait until 2014 for season 4

I do not mind spoilers and will respect others wishes on that subject. However, is there a timeframe that we should wait to discuss specifics of episodes? I understand, with DVR & such, many people may not watch the show on the night it is aired. I feel bad for the poster that read the reply in her subscribed threads but (if my time stamps are correct) the PP who wrote that did so on Monday after the show aired.

I don't want to ruin the show for anyone else, but I do enjoy talking about it with other Downton fans.

If any of you listen to podcasts, there is a great after-show recap that I listen to every week. It's Afterbuzz TV Aftershow - Downton Abbey. I swear, this week's re-cap had my crying more than the show itself. Everyone was commiserating together.

You know the one scene that haunts me still because it was just so beautifully done? Where the Dowager Countess approaches Carson, makes one statement about "we've seen a lot, you and I" and then walks away. And they just hang on that scene of her walking away, leaning heavily, carrying the weight of it. That just got me more than anything in the whole episode.

I agree. That was the most poignant moment of the episode.

Yes, it was beautifully done. Seeing the matriarch of the family, the pillar of strength, struggling to hold herself together was heartbreaking. Between that and Thomas Barrow sobbing like a baby it was enough to make anyone sob along with them.

Okay, to lighten the mood (I am sad about Sybil too), post some of your favorite quotes (any show, any season)

I actually LOL when Dowager Countess said "I need a drink" then she turned to Robert and said "oh, I thought you were a waiter" This was when they were going to have the buffet style dinner (season 3, 1st episode)

Season three actually finished late October/ early November in the UK. Then we had the Christmas Day episode, on Christmas Day

If you can get hold of the Xmas episode, watch it ASAP! It has some happy, but a lot of sad too.

It's due to start here in September- but I'm sure you all in the US might be able to get the episodes off of the computer sooner.

It's always frustrating that American movies don't come out here for months after being released in the US. I've been waiting for Wreck it Ralph for months now! So I know it sucks having to wait longer than you need to.

Anybody in the US who wants to watch Downtown Abbey in September from British Television, you can easily do so using the Chrome Web Browser and a new add-on that was just released. Lifehacker just did an article.

http://lifehacker.com/5978591/hola-u...less-of-region

Put in the Add On on the Chrome Browser and then go to the ITV network website and find where Downton is streaming. When it asks you to verify a zip code look up one for London and put it in.

My favorite quotes are all from the Dowager Countess! A few real good ones:

DC: You are quite wonderful the way you see room for improvement wherever you look. I never knew such reforming zeal.

Mrs Crawley: I take that as a compliment!

DC: I must have said it wrong...

Upon meeting the decidedly middle class Matthew and his mother for the first time:
Mrs Crawley: What should we call each other?

DC: Why don't we start with Mrs Crawley and Lady Grantham?
