Family asked to leave AKl for smoking on balcony

We stayed at the AKV this past July (07/11/12 to 07/18/12). While we were there a few people told me that a family was asked to check out and escorted off property for smoking on the balcony at AKL. I don't know if this was at Jambo or Kidani Village. Did anyone else hear about this?

Now only if they'd start kicking them out of the parks.. Not the ones in the designated areas, but the ones who roam around thinking the rules don't apply to them.. although I do wish they'd move that smoking area outside Everest in AK..

I asked a few people about this and they said they doubt it happen. They did go on to say that if they had asked them several times (like more then 3) and they sometimes (the guests) can get quite nasty, being asked over and over. Then other issues arise and they are out the door.

I doubt someone would be kicked out of their room and "escorted" off the property just for smoking on their balcony, unless they were smoking something other than cigarettes. If they were just smoking cigarettes, there is more to this story.

I don't know about the rooms, but I have to agree that the smoking area outside Expedition Everest in AK is horrible. I travel with someone who gets bad headaches from the smoke very quickly, and then they are done for the day. I am all for smokers having their areas, but that one was the only smoking area that I noticed the whole trip and it was bad. We were going back and forth between dinoland and asia so it was a haul the long way around to avoid it.

a million thumbs up to this one!!! My only Disney complaint. I really hate people who smoke as they walk, blowing smoke right in the faces of everyone around them. Why have designated smoking areas if you aren't going to enforce the rule? I see CMs ignoring offenders all the time.

Dangling their cigarettes at arm's length while walking in a crowd bothers me even more. That burning ash is right at face level for a lot of small children.

Not sure about giving the boot, but last year at the Poly the person above us was smoking. We could smell it everytime we opened our patio door & they would flick their ashes down to our patio! We went complain & the CM was very upset told us that was not acceptable & would do something about it. I don't know what exactly was done but we never smelled any smoke or saw ashes after that.

To be fair, AKL has the cameras recording the balconies so they may have recorded proof.

There are designated smoking areas. They are there for a reason. THIS is where it is OK to smoke without criticism or nasty attitudes.

When you are smoking on a balcony, now you are going against MY rights. The resort rules ask you not to smoke on a balcony. Kudos to AKL if they were asked to leave.

Rules are rules. Breaking them is not only rude, it is also a poor model for younger ones. Why make rules if there are no consequences?

We were told that they saw them by camera throwing the cigarettes off the room balcony. We heard the story from a few different people.

We were there in August and I've got to say that I noticed the same problem much more than I ever remember. It was to the point that it seemed like they weren't even enforcing the rules anymore. The CM's must notice because they were around, but nothing was done.

If the butts are being thrown to the Savannah's then yes they should be escorted out. Same as no balloons or plastic straws. They will not risk an animal's health to keep one guest happy.

As a former smoker I always tried to be considerate of those around me, especially kids. Now that I have kids this is a huge pet peeve of mine......makes my blood boil that the happiest place on earth has people who don't care about anyone else.

Yep, it's posted everywhere @ AKL - no balloons/straws/cig.s and to close your drapes due to cameras. If it was a family, I do feel sorry for the kids who had their vacation cut short due to the smoking of idiot adult/s - but kudos to AKL for protecting their animals.
