Did I read there will be club level DVC GF rooms in the main bldg?

Or was it just a crazy rumor a few months ago? Anything come of it?

Likely Crazy Rumor. As far as I recall Disney has not officially mentioned it, one way or the other, which would be an indication that it will not happen (when it announced AKV practically the first words out of its mouth were that it would include club level).

The most I recall is a few people hoping it would have a concierge level but other than that I don't recall any rumor it would.

IMO the really crazy rumor was that VGF could be ALL concierge.

Including or excluding concierge is probably defensible on different (financial) levels. But we have't heard a peep from DVC suggesting there would be concierge so I tend to doubt it.

Any space committed to a lounge means less room for villas. If Disney sets-aside 10,000 - 15,000 sq ft for the lounge, food prep and storage, they're sacrificing 8-12 two bedroom villas. A single 2B at Bay Lake Tower can represent over 22,000 DVC points. Concierge rooms may command a higher nightly point cost but the trade-off is a loss of rooms.

Some would argue that VGF "needs" concierge rooms due to the demands of its clientele. I go the other direction on that. I'm sure there are high rollers spending $8-10K (and more!) per trip for elite Grand Floridian accommodations with concierge access. And I think Disney is perfectly content with that group NOT buying into DVC and continuing to spend such outrageous sums to stay in the hotel.

They could always offer to sell VGF guests a concierge add-on with access to the hotel lounge. Other resorts already do that. Wouldn't be as convenient as a lounge located in the villa wing but it's still an option for people who demand such a perk.

IMO Club Level is a problem for DVC resort owners. Disney may charge additional points to stay there but the owners pay for the cost to operate CL by paying higher dues.

Not a fair system IMO.

By other resorts, I'm assuming you mean non-disney?

Club level access & amenities can be added on for an additional fee for suites at Disneyland Hotel.

My recollection was there was no official source or even rumor for this option. Some wished for it, some speculated about it and we discussed the relative merits and options including points, costs and various options. I think it's extremely unlikely but I could argue for it from a financial and sales standpoint. A route some of the non DVC timeshare have gone lately is Presidential suites that are larger with nicer amenities.

Semi-OT, but has Disney even officially acknowledged that VGF is going to be a DVC resort?

Yes, there was an official announcement and an update IIRC. 147 villas with 200 keyed entries was what was reported. Of course we have 2 previous announced resorts that are not DVC resorts but none to this level of construction. I think you can count on the resort opening late next year as a DVC resort.

There have been numerous reports over the years of people staying on DVC points being able to buy concierge access. Resorts have included Beach Club, BoardWalk and Grand Californian.

Fees have always been exorbitant, IMO. Most recent report was something in the neighborhood of $40 per person, per day. And I can't think of a resort where the villas are anywhere close to the concierge lounge.

At Animal Kingdom Lodge it appears to be contractually forbidden to allow a concierge cash add-on due to the presence of the club level villas.

Thanks. I figured as much, as I think some Guides have even owned up to it, but I somehow missed it.
