Thank you!! This is the thing I hate most about reading the threads on this board. I only access via my phone, and if people quote the question over and over, I can't be bothered to scroll...

For the acronyms, I don't mind DH, DS, etc. I've used them on an old pregnancy board I belonged to, so they've always meant "dear husband" etc to me - not Disney. I just find it easier than typing husband out...especially given I'm always on my phone and not a computer with a keyboard.

Oh, I thought it was just me! On an old account, I've been on the DIS for over 4 years and the DH, DS, DD, etc. abbreviations have always annoyed the hell out of me. But I've never mentioned it since most people do it. But if I read a post with it in it really irritates me. Sorry.

Add me to the list of people who don't like the D- abbreviations. I really hate them. I am glad I'm not the only one. It just strikes me as childish and overly cutesy. I understand that they are shorter and quicker to type but I still don't like them at all.

I also really hate the trend I've noticed where people type things like DDaughter, DSon, DNiece and the like. I seriously don't understand the point of those at all. I mentioned that on another thread on here before and asked why people bothered with the "D". They told me it was so people would know they liked their "DSon", etc. Really?! I assume if you are talking about your Son or whoever that you probably do like them. The lack of a D isn't going to make me think you hate them. The rest of what you say about them is what's going to tell me how you feel about them, and if that seems negative then no D is going to convince me they are Dear to you.

And in "real life" no one constantly says "I called my Dear Son and he said..." or "My Dear Niece came to dinner and ...". Well, maybe some people do but I haven't heard that. If I did hear someone saying that, I would actually assume they didn't like the person they were talking about, or at least weren't very happy with them. Typically when I've heard someone call their child their "Dear Son" it's been intended to be sarcastic, as in " Well my Dear Son poured flour all over the kitchen again to make snow angels, so I'll be cleaning for the next three weeks."

I don't mind acronyms or initials as long as someone explains them within the thread where they are using them. So if you want to talk about Fort Wilderness (or your Coworker, Oldest Daughter or Younger Son) and you use the full name in your first sentence and then FW (or CW, OD, or YS) after that, then that's great. But just jumping in with the initials and assuming everyone will know what you are talking about is annoying and somewhat inconsiderate.
