Well, I totally get why people would abbreviate long annoying words like, "you," into, "u." I mean, really, who wants to take the time to type that out?

But I still read it that way when I'm over here.

Sometimes I worry about my sanity.
I did it too. I even got nervous about there being more Disney freaks around.

Can't stand when people write "prolly" or "lil" --- now I understand it might sound that way when you talk, but those are not words. It's not cute, it sounds ignorant.

The "Dear...." abbreviations don't bother me but I was using those on other message boards years before I was ever on the DIS.

To me it is just message board jargon/abbrevations -- just like if I asked you "Do you have the Cars DVD?" Instead of writing out "Do you have the Cars Digital Versatile Disc (or Digital Video Disc)?" or writing TV instead of Television.

These are obvious acronyms. Everyone knows what DVD and TV are. Not everyone is aware of the other ones.

What really bothers me on this forum is why do people insist on quoting an entire post in their reply. This makes for a LOT of extra pages and harder to read. Most of the time someone will quote a very long post, then reply back with a lol or thumbs up. Why not just pick and choose the part of the quote you are replying to. And replying with a "thumbsup" is kind of useless in my opinion. Are these people just trying to get their post count up? These boards are one of the worst for this. Out of the other boards I visit anyway. I can live with reading on the pixel dust comments people leave, as this is a Disney forum. But what is with ? Anyway, my rant is over. Lol

Disney Husband? That never even crossed my mind that it could be disney husband...I always just read it as dear. Though I DO hate all the DS, DD, DH stuff too- doesn't take that much longer to type out the word daughter!

I always figured that the person just couldn't spell the word "probably" and thought that was how it was spelled.

I don't mind "yummy" if its coming out of someone under 5- but it's like nails on a blackboard when an adult says or uses that word in a post! Make them seem like they are a small child. Though "Delish" isn't that much better.

I understand what you're saying and can see your point. Sometimes asking the question is reasonable. But when someone on the Theme Parks Attractions & Strategies Board posts, "Has anyone ever ridden _____?"; or someone asks on the Resorts Board, "Has anyone ever stayed at _____?"; or pops up with, "Anyone ever use the Dining Plan?" on the Dining Plan subforum...

Okay, that last one is (I think) an exaggeration - but the first two examples are relatively accurate.

Speaking of questions, it's irritating to me when people use a question mark in place of the word 'question' in a thread title.

I hate when people fill their posting with so many abbreviations that I have to struggle to understand what the heck they are talking about.

The is known as "The Rule."

The wonderful people on the The Dis board so generously give their opinions with a, You asked for it, and we're more than happy to tell you exactly what we think," type of attitude. Sometimes, the original poster is so completely, um... overwhelmed with all the responses and "helpful advice" that she/he comes back to delete their original post. Quoting the original post helps late arrivals to the thread, follow along and then they can add their advice, as well!

Although, I agree, after it's been quoted, it isn't necessary for the next 116 people to quote the original post.
