Watched it with my DS - we both enjoyed it. We'll definitely be watching it but it's not as good as Sherlock.

????

Watson and Holmes aren't canonically gay, especially not in the BBC version. The BBC version just includes a lot of queer-baiting.
As explained to by my 16yo dd (who loves "Sherlock" and is analyzing the show in her video production class).....

The reason for the gender bending is so Holmes and Watson can get together instead of allowing Holmes and Watson to get together as a gay couple. Male/Female Holmes and Watson can make sexual comments with each other since it is a male/female relationship and not a male/male.

I myself will watch the show and I love gender bending and do not take it like my dd does.

I had a terrible time understanding everything that he said too. It seemed like he talked too fast.

It was very David Tennant, "Dr Who" style. At least that is the vibe I got right away.

the showrunners have said that they don't plan on making Sherlock and Joan a couple (Obviously this may change sometime down the line, but as of right now there is no plan on a Sherlock/Joan pairing.) BBC's Sherlock and John are never going to be a couple, as they are both canonically straight. Making Joan a woman has nothing to do with refusing to show homosexual couples, but is merely a new twist on some beloved characters.

I actually found it pretty dull. A couple of good lines ("Google. Not everything is deduceable."), but otherwise . . . not so much.

I think I'd have preferred it if he weren't allegedly Holmes. Keep everything similar in the episode, but just give him another name! Don't mess with the canon like this - what's the point? And we now have so many detectives who do this "observing and deducing" thing on TV (Mentalist, Psych, Monk, for examples), did we really need another one with the name of Holmes?

I'll give it a couple of episodes, but if he doesn't calm down and the mysteries get better, then I'll be done, gender-bending or not.

There is a large amount of JohnLock shippers who watch the BBC/PBS series.

I liked it. Will keep watching.
Though it did make me think of Monk.... a quirky detective that had a sidekick caregiver.

You think?

My dd says "Elementary" is a total fan fic rip off & the gender bending just ticks off the Johnlock crowd.

I will watch it anyway.

and that's perfectly fine, "ship and let ship" I say. it's when people say non-canon ships (featuring two heterosexuals) are queer representation that bother me. Especially in BBC Sherlock considering how the show treated their only canonical queer character (Irene Adler)

Non-canonical changes in sexual preference bugs me as well, going back to Mulder/Krychek ships.

Also, I haven't watched the BBC series yet, so it's new to me that they treat Irene Adler as a lesbian. Her sexual preference wasn't mentioned in Doyle's work.

We did! We think it would have been better if he wasn't doing the accent.....although I know next to nothing about the actor so maybe he's British. lol I hadn't even thought of that until just now. lol I guess I need to look that up. haha

We liked it but we aren't sure yet, we will give it a few more episodes before we decide if we want to keep recording it or not.
