Can you break your pinkie toe?
I can't believe how stupid I am. I was late for work, in a rush, so shoved my foot into a sock and into my dress shoe. I thought at the time "ouch" as if I had caught the nail on a thread inside my sock, but by the time I got to work, there was a large red area all along the outside of my toe, especially over the knuckle. It's swollen and sore to the touch. From being a high school athlete, I seem to remember just taping the affected toe to the toe next to it and calling it good. Is it possible that it is broken, and whether or not it is, is it worth the bother to get it looked at? (And, yes, I promise to go in if it gets worse, no matter what the DIS medical staff says
).I knew I should have stayed in bed today... Terri |

My wife broke hers, and all that could be done is tape it up.

Where you are, I imagine snow will be flying any day now, so you won't be in sandals much longer, eh?

It's still black and blue, swollen and hurts like the devil. I have a box under my desk at work to prop my foot up. Advil and ice are my new besties. If only I could find a way to keep the dogs from stepping on my foot, it would be a blessing. They were never this under foot before I got hurt. |

I agree with everyone else. Yes, it's possible. I've broken both of mine (one of them twice), but they don't really do anything besides say "yes, it's broken." My doctor didn't even think taping it was worth it. He just told me to wear sturdy, well-fitting shoes till it healed.
It hurts though, and I'm sorry you have (presumably) broken yours. I hope you feel better soon.

For sure it's possible
Poor lil Miss broke her pinkie toe once. A plastic Disney placemat had fallen on the kitchen floor. She accidentally stepped on it, slide backwards head over heals and broke her pinkie toe. It wasn't until the next day that it turned all kinds of purple up her foot and around her ankle. Took her in for an X-ray, broken pinkie. They placed some tounge depresses under 2 toes, taped em together and gave her a firm walking shoe. They tried to give her crutches, but she was worse for wear with those

Thanks everyone. Until the swelling goes down, I don't think I'm going to be able to get it into "sturdy" shoes though. Urgh. Glad to know that misery loves company!

Definitely possible. I broke mine was I was 9 mos pregnant.
I called the dr and she asked if it was swollen. I said I didn't know as I hadn't seen my toes in quite some time. She told me to tape it to the toe next to it and take some Tylenol. I had to wear flip flops for a few weeks after (thankfully it was in the summer) as it was too painful to wear closed shoes. Good luck. I hope it heals quickly!

Last january I broke the pinkie toe and the one next to it. The one next to it had it the worst. The pinkie healed quick but the other one was a mess and took forever to heal.
I was in a boot for two months and a shoe for a month before that. It kept getting bumped and stepped on so much it was just silly. It hurts like mad though. Never knew breaking toes would hurt worse then anything. Thing will actually tingle when it's going to rain now. gah
