Question Hawaii, but where for parents 50th anniversary next year

My parents have decided to go to the 50th state for their 50th anniversary. They have been to Maui and Honolulu. They both enjoyed Maui, but would like some where different for this trip (2013).

My dad will be 73 with a bad ankle (surgery later this year, but still giving it for info) and my mother will be 69 and uses a cane or walker to get around.

They would LOVE something either on the beach or VERY VERY close. My Dad is a water bug so he will DEFINITELY be snorkeling and boogie boarding. They are not afraid of having to drive to get somewhere, so it does not need to be in the heart of something. They live in California, so nothing too urban (we have that here!).

Thanks in advance for any tips!

My favourite Hawaiian island is the Big Island (Hawaii). The best snorkelling is south of Kona. The best beaches are north of Kona. The best hotels are north of Kona. The best hotel is the Four Seasons. The Big Island is very rural. There are lots of natural sights to experience.

I agree with most of this. I don't think there is any snorkeling there; matter of fact, I don't think there is beach swimming at the Four Seasons. Snorkeling is best on a snorkel boat from the Big Island. I really liked the snorkeling from the beach on the way to Maui/Waimea near Ooalaloo. Also Molokini is a good, gentle snorkeling spot from Maui. All of the good snorkeling I know of in Hawaii-any island-is rugged terrain to get there and rough seas sometime(I wear a buoyancy belt to help). If your parents really want water sports-the British Virgin Islands or St. John, USVI might be a better choice for their abilities, flat and walk in snorkeling.

We honeymooned 24 years ago to the day in Princeville on Kauai.

We loved it! Kauai is very lush, not nearly as built-up as Oahu.

Thank goodness I take after my Dad and don't get motion sick (KNOCK ON WOOD!)
