I had the same question, and asked my travel agent, an experienced Disney traveler. Since we will be at Port Orleans Riverside Dec. 29-Jan 3rd, I asked if we should go to the Very Merry Christmas on the last night it is offered (Dec. 29th). She said, no, as all the same decorations will be up in the parks, to save the money. We would miss the snow, I think, but that's about it. Just my opinion - we decided to pass for this year, and think about it for next year.

We went last year and had a great time. It was a lot of fun. They have a special parade and fireworks. We were able to ride all the rides with a little wait and have hot chocolate and cookies, which was a lot of fun. We are planning to go to MNSSHP in October when we are there this year.

I LOVE it!!
Although, I love all thing Christmas. To me it's worth it. I go on the rides, see the parade & enjoy the cookies & hot chocolate. Something about seeing it snow on main street.

it is true that the same decorations will be up, however as others have stated, the cookies, the hot chocolate, the snow on mainstreet, the xmas parade at night all make it special.
plus it is my understanding that it is one of the few times you will actually see Snow White and the 7Ds, together for a great photo op

I will tell you that you must do this once and I am thinking of doing it again this year to buy the shirts sold only at the party.

We will be going for the first time this year! For those of you who have gone, how hard is it to do some character meets while we're there? My main goal is to see the parade and fireworks and hopefully get lots of attractions in later in the evening but thought it would be fun to catch a few photo ops too. We are planning to stay till midnight.
We're going Nov 9th which is the first night of the event, not sure if that makes it busier...?

I like MVMCP. The fireworks and parade alone are worth it and I also really enjoy the show on castle stage. If you like characters, you can meet Belle in her Christmas dress and other princesses with their princes if you have never done that before. I've never minded paying the extra cost but I also go solo so I'm not paying for a family.
