Running backpacks

With a new job I should be able to run to work two days per week and was working out how to carry all my stuff (books, change of clothes etc).

Do any of you have favourite running bags? It would need to have a decent capacity and the biggest thing is that it wouldn't bounce manically!!! Nothing worse than a swinging backpack to through you off

I don't run with a backpack, but I'm thinking I've seen some day packs that you might use or other style hiking packs that secure with the shoulder straps and then one around the waist? I did a quick search on LL Bean site and found some and one currently on sale (Mountain Heather Day Pack) that will fit a bladder if you ever want to use that on a run instead of a water belt. Just not sure what size you are looking at.

I've never run to work myself, but I've heard that some people who do it leave their change of clothes at work the previous day. That might help reduce how much you have to carry.

I don't have a running backpack, but I recently got a Nathan Intensity running vest that I'm really liking. Of course I'm using it to carry water during my marathon training, but I've been thinking that it would work well for running errands if I take the bladder out. My only hesitation in recommending it is that you mentioned carrying books, and I'm not sure how comfortable the vest would be with really heavy items.

Thanks for your replies

I know it's a tricky one to answer without knowing how much I carry. The Nathan vest looks fab, but you're right that I probably wouldn't fit enough in. Lily- thanks for taking the time to search for me!!! I actually think I might see how much I can get away with leaving at work and if it's possible not to carry anything. there's obviously no stand out brilliant backpack as WISHers know everything :D

you could look at the north face back packs. Some of them have straps that buckle at the waist and chest that might help keep things in place.

Thanks for the north face idea- I'll try to have a look at those next time I'm shopping. We don't have many good sports shops here, but we do have outdoory types so that would work.
