Hilton Head in April!

I'm so happy. We just booked our HH 1 bedroom for April at the 7 month window. I was very concerned that we wouldn't get it and we did! Yay!

Now tell me what not to miss. It will be me, DH, DS7, and DD5.

I am heading to HHI in April, too! It is my second trip there and I absolutely loved the resort. It was fabulous.

There are all kinds of activities. I know that they did story telling with the little kids and Shadow was in attendance (although she looked totally bored). They have pool parties for the kids. I think they have campfires.

There is a marsh walk that is supposed to be cool (that I plan to do when I return). I did the kayak tour which was fabulous and I learned so much about the island. I also did a bird walk, which was cool. Make sure you say 'hi' to Dottie in the Mercantile. She is so sweet.

In my signature is a link to a big TR I did last year and there is a section devoted to HHI. It's the "Why Not Queue Up Another Disney Trip" link.

I went on a girl's trip, not a family trip, but I posted lots of pictures of the resort.

That bird walk sounds right up our alley! Is that something DVC provides or is it an outside tour?

There's a bird walk around the resort with one of the CMs. We usually go in November, but we went one year in April-the weather is beautiful then. We almost always get a 1 BR-the ones on the top floor of the main lodge are our favorites-heck, anything at HHI is our favorite!

You will here from folks who know all the ins and outs of the resort. But if your first trip to the inland I would suggest a drive though Sea Pines. We just had about first trip in August and it was nice to explore HHI a little. The Sea Pines Plantation takes up about a third of the island at the south end. There you will find Habour Town with the lighthouse and South Beach and the Salty Dog. Sea Pines is a private community, you will have to pay a $5 entrance fee, good for the day. My sons and me went to Harbor Town we went to the top of the Lighthouse, walked around and did some shopping. The next day we all went to the Salty Dog for some lunch and shopping. The Sea Pines area is beautiful, very upscale. I could not believe the real estate prices. That end of the island is really lovely.

We enjoyed the pool and Beach house. My DH and sons loved the billiard tables and ping pong. My boys rode bikes around and tried their hands at crabbing. We truly enjoyed our villa with it deck. The resort has a very relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy.....

Dh and I loved the British Open Pub.....

Good for you! We love HH too. We are on a wait list for the week before Easter!!! I called at the 7month window and had to wait list! I don't think our chances are too good though

Enjoy it. It's a great place to vacation!

Totally free and open to everyone at the resort. The marsh walk is free too. The kayak tour was $30 and reduced to $25 on member day. I know you have little ones, but honestly, the kayak tour was fabulous, super easy to do, and the tour guide was a native of the area. We got so much history about HHI and he really explained why the Disney property is in the location it is, why there is no restaurant there, why the shopping centers are designed the way they are, ect.

I agree that the trip over to Sea Pines and the lighthouse is something you should do. The view from the top of the lighthouse is spectacular.

As opposed to a theme park area, everyone has a car, and there are many excellent restaurants that don't charge "Disney prices.". Exploring the different plantation areas is part of the fun of Hilton head. And if you've just gotta have food where you are staying, there is outside delivery here just like everywhere else.

If I remember from the DVC members' tour, I think that was one of the agreements that Disney had to make with the town fathers of Hilton Head, probably so that tourists would spend money in town. The CM let us know that the town fathers were initially VERY concerned about Disney coming to their quaint little island.

That's exactly right. There was a guy by the name of Charles Fraser who originated all the laws that restricted building on HHI and were intended to preserve that natural beauty of the island. Disney was very, very lucky to get that little piece of real estate where the resort rests. Charles Fraser was very much opposed to the unrestricted building of condos because condos have kitchens and it would keep people from eating at the local establishments.

Here is a link to some info

The Grill at the pool and at the beach house both serve WONDERFUL burgers. If Joyce is there, they taste even better.

Beyond that, you have to mix with the folks on HHI proper. Ask the folks at the main desk to direct you to Pazzo across the highway (walking distance for our clan).

Make sure you have Skin-so-Soft with you. April here in the low country is very Gnatty. A 50% mixture of SoS and water will keep them at bay.
