We went to Wicked at the Pantages last January after spending a few hours at DLR and then dinner at the Grove. We were running late (of course!) but managed to make it in an hour on a Friday night around 6 PM. It was touch and go for awhile, and we almost ran out of gas, too, so had to pull off somewhere in LA (THAT was fun) but still made it to a nearby parking lot (is it sad that I don't think $10 is too much to pay for parking?) and we ran down the street (and were far from being the weirdest thing happening, believe you me) and made it within a few minutes of the time they said they close the doors and don't HAVE to let you in till intermission (I'm sure they're more accommodating than that, but we didn't want to miss anything, this play was a real treat for all of us).

Anyway... I recommend going on Sunday, where traffic will be much lighter, and you don't have to drive back that late at night. Still leave yourself about an hour, hour and a half to breathe easily. But you may make it in less than 45 minutes and be waiting a while!

Welcome to LA.

When downtown carpool lanes will end. Follow the 101N and get off at Union Station. Park at Union Station (it's cheap) and get on the red line. Get off at Hollywood+Vine. You'll save a fortune in parking and the train is significantly faster than driving.
Good plan except that you want 91W, not 91E.
