I just scanned on whatever printer/scanner I had at the time. You can go online and read lots about scanning (e.g. dpi settings etc.). I used to scan 2 or 3 pictures at a time and then divide them using Photoshop Elements and then crop, clean them up. Many of my old pictures required sharpening to bring them into better focus.

If you use a photo editing program such as Picasa (free from Google) or Photoshop Elements etc. you can really clean up old pictures plus preserve them for storage purposes.

And if your pictures are in those "sticky" magnetic page albums PLEASE take them out immediately! The adhesive in those albums will seep through the pictures and ruin them. If they stick to the page, gently slide dental floss underneath to loosen them or scan right from the album page.

If you want to see the results of my scanning work, look at my link below and scroll down to the Disney category and then scroll down to my 1979 or 1990s era pictures.

Good luck!

I really DO want to live there!
I circulate my paper clips at work so they all get used or I feel like they'd be sad if they didn't get a "turn".

I've also had some slides professionally scanned and still ended up touching them up myself after scanning.

It was all worth it though!
Haaaa Jud! Funny - I bet half are really on disk - but I have bunch on the APS and Fujifilm rolls - No Pics except the ones I printed and used in my scrapbooks.. LOL.. I guess someday when I have "free" time I'll have to look thru the tote of pictures/disk/films and see what I have ..

Wow klmall! that is awesome you did that.. I know I need to but finding the time is my issues..

Jud & klmall, thanks for the replies... I hate doing them one by one on a flatbed scanner but when I tried the handheld I was not happy at all with the results... I'm gonna have my husband buy me a new Epson one for Christmas that does the negatives as well and yes Jud I remember well the 110 cameras , had one for years, and lots of negatives from them too as well as some slides from my parents
