I've gotten a flu shot for years. I didn't get one last year. We were supposed to have a clinic at work in October and it was postponed to the day before my trip to Mexico! I usually don't get sick from it but I didn't want to risk it. I didn't get a shot last winter and I was sick sick sick!!!! Major flu in February! Out if work for several days, couldn't keep anything down, fever.....the whole nine yards! I was sick again in March and April! Horrible! I will be sure to get the flu shot this year!

Is it too early to get the shot now? Will it last the whole season?

We have already had 2 patients swab positive for influenza A. My job is giving flu shots this week.

I'm a nurse, I get one every year. The one year I didn't get one I was so sick, I didn't think I would die, I wished I would!

The flu vaccine is NOT a live virus, you cannot get the flu form a flu shot.

It's required for my school program and it's free at work so I get it every year. I have no one to take care of DD if I get sick and if she gets sick, I'm out of luck. Her elementary school has already sent home paperwork saying that they're seeing flu-like symptoms in many of the children; she'll be getting her shot in the next week or so.

Thanks for this! I'm going to call about getting my kids in and will get one for myself as well. We have gotten them the last several years. DD12 has asthma & all 3 of my kids are prone to respiratory infections. DD hates that she has to get the shot while the other 2 can get the mist. Personally, I prefer the shot, I hate having a wet nose for any reason! DH finally started getting them last year but he rarely gets sick.

On a daily basis, some kid forgets to cough into his or her arm, and the spittle flies across the kidney table onto me. I am definitely getting the shot!

We get it every year since our twin daughters had the flu years ago. They were so sick and missed a lot of school. We never get any adverse reactions.

I never get it. I don't take any unnecessary medication (including vaccines) and I don't think the flu shot is necessary.

The only criteria I use is whether or not I'm confident that my own immune system can handle the flu if I get it and I am.

No decision process for me. I get one every year and have never even considered NOT getting one. I work in healthcare and during flu season I'm exposed every single day. Haven't had the flu in 30 years so I guess it works.

I get every year. No down side, lots of upside.

I ask myself, "do you want to get the flu this year?" Then I answer, "no," and get the vaccine, like I've been doing since about 1995.

Due to my immune system which had to be wiped out and rebuilt, so to speak, I pretty much need to get one. I think I have my entire life.

I think it's super important for everyone to get a shot if they can. It helps those who can't that also have increased risk of sickness.

The findings suggest that getting vaccinated against H1N1 and avoiding infection with the flu may help protect patients who have a genetic susceptibility to narcolepsy. It’s very possible that being vaccinated with a mild vaccine, one without the adjuvants in question, blocks you from getting a big infection that could increase your risk of narcolepsy,” Mignot said in a statement.

The study appears in the Annals of Neurology.

If you're trying to prevent you/your family from getting narcolepsy, you're not doing it right.

I don't get one or get it for my kids. I used to, but not anymore. I don't think I've had the flu, and the kids have not. Sure it's a gamble, but I just don't think it's a big deal for us. We will likely survive the flu and then have some lifelong antibodies to show for it!
