Flu Shot?
Do you give your child/children the flu shot? My kids are 9, 6, and 1. The 9 and 6 year have their annual check up Friday and that would be the day they would get the flu shot. I have always said yes to the flu shot in the past but for some reason I am questioning it now.(might just be the reactions from my kids when they hear the word shot
) My 6 year old in the past has had mono, and Pneumonia twice along with countless virus's. The 9 year old just has the common cold here and there. My 1 year will be getting it in Oct.

I'll be passing. My 2 year old is in preschool this year, but I still don't think we will.
In your situation, I would give the 6 year old one with the history given, but the other two kids, probably not. |

I hear ya. The 6 year old is the one who freaks out the most at the word shot. He knows he has to go to the doc on Friday and he woke up today asking if it was Friday and did he have to get a shot. Should be a fun day.

I'm vaccinating my 6 month old. We will be travelling a lot this year (including WDW during flu season), and I want to reduce his chances of catching it.
Am I convinced that the flu shot is totally safe? Not really. |

The flu shot can have mild side effects, it's true, but we get it every year, all 5 of us, and have never had a problem. My husband and I work in healthcare, so we got used to getting vaccinated every year. We were just around too many patients not to!

I absolutely would have my children vaccinated, and I did. Both my husband and I get the vaccination every year. No side effects and no flu.

Yes, I will be vaccinating my children. My dd7 will get the Flu Mist and my dd10 will get the flu shot. If your child is afraid of shots, I recommend the Flu Mist.

My MIL and sister never got vaccinated and both got the flu two years ago. They were miserably sick
My sister now gets the shot (especially that she became a teacher) but my MIL still won't get vaccinated. I don't understand it, really. She can't be convinced that you can't get the flu from the shot. But she got the flu anyway, so might as well try getting vaccinated!

My 6 year old is not a fan and does get really upset but my only concern would be his past issues with mono and Pneumonia. Not sure that affects his immune system for it to be considered weakened. He was really good cold/virus wise last year. The mist would make my Friday easier but dd9 would have to get the shot. I read if you have interactive airways disease you should not get the mist.

A friend lost her 8 month old baby to the flu. His twin brother recovered. We get shots.

My kids get a flu vax. DD #1 prefers the mist and #2 prefers the shot. I know that the vax isn't foolproof as it doesn't protect against all strains (#1 had the flu two years ago despite being vaxed), but since #2 has asthma and her primary trigger is viral infection, I try to do what I can to at least limit their chances of catching something.

I've never gotten it before ... but this year I'm thinking of getting it. Actually I was considering going over and doing it today.
My thought is last year was such a mild winter with a low flu precentage that this year its going to be crazy. I am probably wrong and it will be another 65-70 degree winter, with very little sickness, but hey better safe than sorry. |
