Hmm. Was this a blog post by Disney or AllEars? I'd like to see what the menu will be before I make a decision about whether or not to keep my ADR. We were excited about the idea of the antics, and we're all meat eaters but not really good at finishing large portions, so "all you care to eat" style doesn't really work for us for non-character meals, where I feel like its mostly paying for the character face time. Its weird that there will be no salad/healthy options on the menu given the recent trend in Disney surveys to ask about healthy food items ...

Ah, cool. Makes sense then. Was just hoping somebody had a link to something that included the new menus, but if they just let the employees know I guess we'll have to wait til the 19th to see them. Thanks for the info!

The poster you quoted said Disney Dining - i.e. dining at Walt Disney World. Nothing about any dining plan. And the poster who works at Wilderness Lodge listed a number of reasons for the changes - none of which, again, refer to any dining plan.

None of which also referred to the quality of food. Or say this will enhance your dining expereince.

Alll of which indicate this is a move to increase turn and decrease costs...

Sorry, but what else would you say caused this? The Tooth Fairy?

This is just another "money" grab. For those on the DDP Disney still gets the same amount of $$ but provides you LESS options. Gee that's an improvement - NOT! LOL! Those of us not on the DDP are catching on... get a car and go find REAL options that provide higher quality at a better price. (And if you don't have a car, the Swan/Dolphin are good options for good food)

I wonder if they will take the meatloaf off the menu. Two different waiters on two different visits talked us out of ordering it, saying it was terrible and they'd never eat it themselves.

I had the skillet for dinner in 2010 and really liked it. The salad, cornbread and meats were all very good. I especially enjoyed the chicken.

I ordered it for lunch this past June, and it was terrible. The chicken was all dried-out, and the ribs were so tough, they were inedible. That lunch was so bad, it'll be a long time before I'll want to go back there.

1. I like the DDP even with the changes and would never do Disney without it.
2. Why should I spend an extra $250 on a rental car to eat offsite and pay out of pocket for my food when I can get the DDP free? That too me does not make fiscal sense.

The adults in my party won't be a problem with the "platter" but my 8 yr old DS will hate it. Will have to wait and see if they change the kids menu as well on 19th.

Worst meal ever - husband and I both ordered the skillet for lunch....cold ribs, chicken was caked with so much rosemary it was inedible. Corn cobs were mush. Yuck all around.

Worst service ever. The waiter was RUDE. Verbally reprimanded us TWICE while we ordered our beverages. He was abrupt with my children. He admonished us for our (autistic) son's table manners. And not in that funny WCC way either. He was just an ***. Unbelievable. We were a party of six, so required to leave a 18% tip and you better believe I left that required amount down to the penny and not a single cent more. If you are seated in Cajun Chad's area, RUN AWAY. Seriously intolerable.
I wonder if he's the same waiter we had 6 years ago in October 2006. I'd hate to think that Disney would keep Cast Members who behave so rudely that long. It was a terrible experience for the last night of our WDW trip. We haven't been back to WCC since.

DH & I have an upcoming trip w/o kids in November & I thought we'd try WCC again. With the menu change ie not having salad included (or maybe having to pay extra for it if they'll offer it) I'm not so sure. Plus the possibility of having the same or another rude waiter would probably make me vow off WCC forever.

The kid's menu will offer the platter but will have other options as well so kids won't have to eat it if they want something else.

Sorry to hear about your experience the first time. A suggestion I can make is to ask at the front podium when you check in for a server who is a little more "mild" if you will. From my experience there are different kinds, and I'm sure they would be happy to fill such a request.

From my understanding they are broadening the options offered on the new platter to provide a better quality of food. And the main reason for the change is to allow guests staying at the hotel a chance to dine at WCC nothing to do with DDP. A lot of guests staying at WL have complained about not being to dine without a reservation so hopefully the change will allow those guests to dine. The decision was made to provide better quality service (aka shorter time to wait for table and food) to more guests (increasing guests w/o reservations).

Thanks for your comment/idea, but that wasn't our first time @ WCC. Previous waiters & waitresses were fine & fun & we enjoyed it. His rude comments & poor service had nothing to do with the theming & joking around that comes with WCC. Wilderness Lodge is our favorite place to stay, but every time I see WCC I'm reminded. I was hoping to make a new & better memory of WCC this trip. Maybe I'll look at our schedule & change it to a breakfast instead.

. It's not FREE! Just because Disney puts the word free do you really think they are giving it away? And that makes sense because if they just give things away they will stay in busines... It's a Discount. What they did was mark the room rates up to 200% over the standard so they can give "free dining" It makes no sense for me to pay for it. And you are paying for it. Those rooms are so overpriced it's not funny. Just this weekend on the Resort board a poster posted the rates for three hotels for one night. YC was over $100 more a night then Swan/Dophin. I can eat well for $100 a day LOL!

(And where are you renting cars? I have never paid that much!)

And I love the post that says " And the main reason for the change is to allow guests staying at the hotel a chance to dine at WCC nothing to do with DDP. This may be true. Lots of us are going... "if you only give us ONE option for a meal we aren't bothering to come" So this may be an easy place to get into providing you like the ONLY options on the menu! And of course this does come back to DDP. There is a direct relationship between "say it's free" dining and resturant crowding.

Let's not forget the salad (aka appetizer) is no longer included. They are now including dessert. It's certainly a strange coincidence, if DDP had nothing to do with it. Honestly, I can understand people supporting DDP, because they like to use it & are okay with the decline that has resulted. If I always needed tickets & visited during free dining, I'd probably defend it to the death too. OTOH, I can't believe anyone still refuses to accept that it has resulted in a decline in food quality & offerings. At this point, there is no doubt that DDP has had a negative impact on Disney dining. If you don't see it, it's because you don't want to.
