You can apply it to your onboard account. Have done this several times. Most recently last week on the Magic. I had actually forgot about it and went down mid-cruise and applied the reward dollars to my onboard account.

People have had different experiences with whether or not any excess applied can be refunded to the card. On one cruise I was specifically told that it could not be, but on other cruises it has been done with no problem. SO....I'm a bit careful about the amount I allow them to apply.

Without a visit to Guest Services at the end of the cruise, they automatically applied the excess back to my Rewards Card last June.

On the Fantasy in April they put the credit back on my VISA card!!!! It as less than $10 so I was prepared to loose it, and I didn't question it.

We have quite a bit saved on our Rewards Card. I am only going to put part of in on our account in the beginning. If we spend all of that, I will go to Guest Service and add more.

Thumbs up

How I did it on the Dream was when I knew what I had for a balance ,daily, from the tv in your room I went down and applied the gift cards or reward cards to the balance.

I had a few gift cards so say the balance was $100, I applied 2 gift cards to the account in the morning and I had a balance of zero again-worked great for me becuase I did not apply it all at once and wasn't afraid to lose any of it if not used.

I had a case where I had a credit card on file but was planning on putting it on the rewards card the last day. When I went to GC to do ths, we discovered that they had already charged my credit card for my purchases midway through the trip. I guess they do that if you exceed some limit. It took a bit of time and work to get that taken off my cc and use my rewards card used, but they were happy to do it.
So now I go down every other day or so and apply a fixed amount to keep our balance low.

Our plan, which we have used successfully on many of our cruises. On day 1, go to guest services and apply the full balance of your Disney Rewards card. During the cruise, check your portfolio balance to make sure all charges are correct. Towards the end of the cruise, do nothing. If a balance is owed, it will automatically be charged to your credit card on file. If you still have a credit, it is automatically credited back to your Rewards Card. No action is required on your part for either of these scenarios. As the PP posted, DCL charges you Credit Card when you get to certain balances on you portfolio, somewhere between $400 and $500. Excursions are charged to your portfolio on day 1, so you want to be sure the Rewards Card is applied before too many charges show up.
