Flying with a double jogger

Has anyone had any problems flying with a double jogging stroller? (Gate checking)

American refused to gate check our Bob Duallie at MCO. We had to check it at the ticket counter. DS had to walk, and we had to put DD (19 mos) in a dirty, broken, loaner umbrella stroller provided by the airline. It was shameful. The straps were broken, and we had to lean over to push it because it was so small. Wobbly wheels and all.

Needless to say, we will not EVER fly American again.

Did they refuse to check it at the gate and make you go all the way back to the ticket counter???

We never say anything about our City Mini Double at the ticket counter. We just go through security and check it, literally, at the gate and we've never had a problem. If they can gate check a large wheelchair, they can gate check a stroller.

No, they "caught" it at the ticket counter, and told us that we would not be allowed to gate check it.

My argument was the wheelchair one, they said that the gate agents were not required to lift strollers over 20 lbs.

Not all airlines have this policy, and not all of American's stations uphold this policy but Orlando does. http://www.aa.com/i18n/travelInforma...nTraveling.jsp

Be sure to check before you fly American

It is a fairly recent change in policy. I guess you could also look at it as at least they gave her a stroller to use to get to the gate. Serves as a reminder to all of us to double check what is and what isn't allowed when we fly, as things do change.
