Cash question

When you use cash to pay your shipboard account, is there a minimum that you have to put on it to begin with?

Not so much a minimum to put down, but they will only let you go up to a certain amount....$500 maybe, and then charging privledges are off until you put money down. It might be $300, I can't remember the exact amount.

Depending on the lenght of your Cruise.
For 7 Nights or longer max is 500, no need to put money into your account until you reach that limit.

4 night cruise max amount before you have to pay it off is $300.

My cruise is 7 nights, so does that mean that I HAVE to put down $500 to begin with? And then if I get close, I put more on?

No, it means your charging privileged will be stopped and will be notified to come settle your bill once you hit $500. I believe they notify you as you are approaching $500 though.

Remember that gratuities are added to your account right away so that might effect the available amount you have to spend and might want to add cash sooner than later.

Is this what you experienced?

Mine were added on the 4th day of my 7-night cruise. We were a cash account, but we had an OBC and applied gift cards to our account on the first day. But I would have been annoyed if I reached my account limit on day 2 because of gratuities and my spa services, skyline passport, etc.

Also make sure that you settle your account the evening before you disembark. I thought I settled my account the evening before but was given the wrong information by Guest Services. I recieved another bill that morning and settled it about an hour before I disembarked. However when I tried to leave the ship I wasn't allowed to and seveal CMs had to get involved. Eventhough I had my receipt that showed the account was paid in full I was on a "list" and my KTTW card was flagged. They thought I was trying to "jump ship" over $6.

Us too!!! Apparently a bartender was late in entering his receipts? We settled the last night and woke up to a $6 bill from the day before....DAY not night.

Yes, we did a cash account at first, and the gratuities were added right at embarkation. I checked my acct on day 4, and just gave them my debit card to have on file so I didn't have to settle up again.

What was your cruise length? I wonder if they add the gratuities on different days, depending on the length. Otherwise, why would they add some people's on the first day and not others'? That would be odd.

There is no amount of money that you must put on your account at the beginning. There is an amount over whatever you put down (the amount varies with the length of the cruise) that is the max you will be allowed to charge.

Why not make life easy on yourself--you KNOW what the standard tips will be. Just put this amount down at the time of embarkation plus a reasonable estimate of whatever else you plan to spend. DCL will refund in cash any extra that you happened to put down or ask you to return with some more green stuff if you under estimated.
