Dummy Date Cruise Question

I just got off the Magic last week on a Canadian cruise (it was great). I booked two dummy date cruises to lock in the 10% discount. The way I did it is put me on one cabin with one DD... and I put my DW in another cabin with my other DD on the same sailing.

There is now a decent possibility that we will sail on the Dream in Aug '13 w my sister-in-law and family (they seem to want to experience DCL now that we have raved about it). But I think there is a real possibility they may bail out on the cruise (they are in a more financially difficult situation than we are).

I know that when I transfer the reservation from the dummy date to Aug that I must stay in one room and DW in another. But for now I am thinking to not bother and add the in-laws to the ressie until they seem really serious about cruising. So if I just move the four of us to the Aug date... and add the other names later will there be a $ downside to this? Will adding them later be at todays rate... or tomorrows rate?

As a side note, if the in-laws dont cruise, we wont be going on the Aug sailing... and the August date will simply become our dummy date.

I can't answer as to the $ downsides (if any), but I will point out that it may not be possible to add 4 additional people at a later date, if the lifeboat capacity or kids clubs (if you're adding any kids) are full.

I just got off the phone w DCL reservations.

They confirmed that adding passengers later will be at the prevailing rate at the time of the addition. So there is the possibility of added cost by waiting.

Additionally, there is the concern that PrincessSchmoo raised.

We can add/remove names at will and move dates (all while keeping the discount) as long as we have not moved past the paid in full date and as long as I am the lead on one room and DW is the lead in the other.

We made one on the cruise... then later that day I passed by the desk and asked for a second on the same sailing and split up the family.

And it was not a problem at all.

It is 2 ressies on the same date per address.

If you add people, you will add them at the 3rd and 4th person rate. The adult will take the already booked 2nd person rate and the DD will move to the 3rd person rate....so the chances of that rate increasing significantly are small.

The bigger issue is that of being able to add the people at all--there must be room in the cabin (which you have) but also room at the muster station and room in the kid programming group. For that reason, it is always easier to add people now and remove them prior to the penalty date if their plans change. Adding them now assures space in the lifeboat station and kid age groups.

You can book up to two staterooms for the same cruise date per address. If you were to move one of the rooms from that date, you would lose all OBB benefits from that reservation.

Yeah, I will add the names over the weekend (when I have birthdays and such).

Question

I booked a dummy date too. I am not sure how it works. I don't won't to cruise until 2014. So she booked me for a 3-night on the Dream for 2013. How do I switch it and what would my benefits be?

Basically, you will get a 10% discount on the cruise that you move this reservation to. So when 2014 cruises are announced (prob in the next couple of months) and you find a date you like, you will change the reservation to the 2014 date you would call DCL at their number (800) 951-3532... but yours will cost 10% less that what you would otherwise be able to book.

Does anyone know how far out you can move a cruise booked onboard after you've picked a dummy date? We will be on the Dream in Feb 2013. I know we can't afford to sail again in 2014, but 2015 is a possibility. Can we pick a dummy date near the end of 2014, and then move it to late 2015 when they are released? Just wondering how far out we can keep moving it, while still getting the 10% discount and OBC.
