Ok, whatever, I don't care.

So the news spreads about this movie that depicts the prophet in supposedly a REALLY bad way, and its making global news.

There are approximately 1.5 Billion muslims in the world, and I would guess that the grand total of protesters right now is only a few Thousand.

Overall I think that's good....FOR NOW. Things could change, but at the moment, we're dealing with a tiny percentage of extremists, nothing more.

Those pictures promoting peace are also very nice, thanks for posting them!

I'm glad jesus didn't specify whether his likeness can or cannot be used.

Even though you may disagree with this particular piece of art, do you know what the artist had in mind?

The whole idea of art, in whatever form is to create an emotional reaction, anger or love, its a reaction and it makes you think more than if it didn't exist at all.

We can be offended as anyone, but the fact remains that if no one is harmed physically or threatened, there shouldn't be any violence against that work.

From the little I've seen of the movie - its hateful and ugly - but protected under free speech. I think the message from the Westboro baptist church is hateful and ugly as well, but also protected.
What the film clip did is poke a very big stick in the hornets nest of extremists. I love all the photos of people holding up signs saying that they don't agree with the violent acts of a few, and I enjoy the photos of the signs being held up by Americans stating that they don't agree with the ugliness of the film.
I think all the "regular" people of the world should all hold up signs stating we are tired of the pissing contest and bullying of a few, making the world unsafe for the millions who would like to live in peace.

I have a hard time calling that a movie. I watched a few clips and it really had that low budget porn quality when it came to the acting and the visual effects. It was laughable and pathetic.

Oh and no the movie was a merely an excuse.

No, IMO I don't think the movie was a catalyst.

I agree with the pps that stated the threat was forecast and ignored. It's been reported as such. That is criminal IMO.

Not in the least. These extreme crazies don't need any excuse to blame us for them living in the 13th century. One day there will be two sides to this war, Muslims and everybody else.

Yeah, but as we learned the last time around - its not considered criminal. Go figure.

I, personally, just keep praying that the rest of the world doesn't see Westboror Baptist Church and think that's what Christians are like. Because comparing the nutjobs who are rioting right now to all the ordinary Muslims who are just going around trying to live their lives makes as much sense as comparing ordinary Christians with the Westboro nutters.

Very few belief systems are able to get by without having some violent, nutjob factions. (And before some atheist uses this to try and get smug and superior, I will remind us all that some of the most violent revolutionaries history has ever produced were atheists, so they're counted in this number, too!)

You just can't judge the majority by the nutjob minority.

Hell No. It was a well planned attack with help on the inside and totally ignored by the people in charge, which is disgusting.

It's being used as an excuse by radicals and I bet that it will continue to be used. They are also effectively using to whip up their followers and some of the other disenfranchised.

As to whether something was planned ahead of time, I don't pretend to know what Intelligence did or didn't know. I see no reason why they would ignore an impending attack on an American embassy.

We don't know how many "false alarms" the U.S. embassies get. I'm going to bet that it happens quite frequently, so we should take that into consideration.

ETA: I'm pretty sure this isn't politics, just something occurring in the world.

Mindless violence using a handy excuse. Most of them have probably never seen or heard of it.
