OT Dogs of leash in a park

There's a park near wear I live and in the last couple of months a number of dog owners have started coming to a area of it where some people use to take a short cut to the subway station. There are numerous signs around the park saying that dogs must be on leash at all times. Also according to the city website it is not an of leash zone. What are your thoughts should I get the city involved or just leave it and not care?

My opinion would be that it depends on if the dogs are a bother you or someone else. I live across the street from a big park that is attached to a school and three playgrounds. The entire area is an on leash park. This means absolutely nothing to about 90% of the dog owners.

Personally, if I am in my house and so are my kids and no other kids are in the park being bothered, I couldn't care less. If my kids or myself are in the park, or on their way to school, and a dog is running wild it really bothers me. My kids have been chased, jumped on and/or nipped by too many dogs (many big dogs) who apparently are "friendly" or "have never bitten before". This infuriates me. Some dog owners just don't get it. Another excuse is a "If your child didn't run, my dog wouldn't have chased him".

My family loves dogs but we do not appreciate a strange dog charging at us. My kids have nearly had heart attacks from the antics of some of these dogs. One of my son's classmates has a huge scar from a dog running wild in the park and jumping up and biting his lip.

I have in the last few years developed a severe allergy to most dogs so even if they brush up to me, I get a horrible reaction. If I am walking my kids to the school or community centre we have a right, in a on leash park, not to be approached by an off leash dog.

There have been huge problems between neighbours in the past. I have never gotten involved but I will say this. There are about two animal control officers in the City of Toronto that make the rounds. Yes, two. If you have a problem you can call them and someone should eventually investigate. Otherwise, if the issue is more a potentional dangerous or aggravating situation, I would call your local police station at the non emergency number. For instance if you are in 55 Division you would call 416-808-5500. If you are in 54 Division call 416-808-5400, etc.

I hope this helps.

I think my main problem with it is I just don't like being approached by dogs that I don't know or I don't know the owners. Also where they let them lose is part of a baseball dimmed and there are some small holes dug into the ground around the area now. I emailed 311 to see what they said, I'm just not sure I really want to bother animal control over it, and it's definitely not something I want to evolve the police in. I might send more details to 311 and let them handle it from there.
