When we were Catholic it was about $50 per child.

Now that we're Jewish, it's $900 per child, and that's considered "cheap" by local standards. Our synagogue only has about 20 students.

CCD is now Faith Formation here too! It's $120 per family for 1.5 hours for 10 weeks for grades 1-6 and 22 weeks for Teen Ministry. It's free if you teach the class.

I have found it extremely rewarding teaching the class. I try to make the classes interesting (we're not doing a workbook) and the kids have really responded. They will even chose willingly to stay after class to finish a lesson or project. My goal is for them to learn the Bible, Sacraments etc.. but make each lesson fun and something they remember. We've done everything from acting out Sacraments to relay races on building Bible passages.

This is eye opening for me as a CE director. Our denomination doesn't charge for religious education; I didn't realize others did. Ours is funded by the general church fund, as is adult ed and teen programming. (Children, youth and adults each have one paid staff member {adult=the pastor}. The rest is volunteer staff.)

I, too, have never heard of charging people for teaching kids in church...
Not in the Lutheran church, nor the Baptist...

We are Lutheran and our christian ed fee is $50 a year. The kids get a meal every Wed night, so that is what the money is for.

Ours is $40 for 1st child, $30 for 2nd (don't know beyond that since I only have 2, lol).

The classes are 90 minutes for 30 weeks, and no extra cost for sacrament years, books, etc.

If you volunteer to teach a class, it's free for all your kids, but dh and I just take the time to go shopping, hehe.

No teacher discount here. DH has been a teacher for the last four years and we've paid every single year for both kids (now DS is confirmed, so only one kid in Wed night classes!).

I am a first year Religious Ed teacher in our Catholic Church and no discount for me. Kids are $40 each and an extra $65 for sacrament prep for my 2nd grader (reconcilliation and first communion). We have over 1000 kids in the program (HUGE parish) so that would be a lot to ask of parishioners to pay for the texts/workbooks/copies, etc. Our program started this week and ends the first of May. Hour long classes weekly.

I am in CT. I paid (I think) $85 for 3 kids. I think one kid was around $55, the 2nd was around $65ish.

It started last week although I thought my younger 2 started at the end of the month so they missed the first week...oooopps! Grades 1-5 go on Sunday am from 9-10:15 to coincide with the mass before & after. Grades 6-8 go on Monday night from 7-8:15 & Grade 9 goes Sunday night. Why grade 9??? I made my confirmation in Grade 8 so I just don't get it.

Oh & it ends the first week of May or the last week of April.

They get a book/folder.
