The silliest comment I hear all the time is "Disney is just for kids".

An older couple was arguing with a CM on the monorail platform at MK that the last time they were there it went to All Stars! It goes everywhere they said!

When telling family members we were going for a 9 day/8 night trip last year we were asked, "Why so long? Is there really that much to do down at Disney World?"

Anyways, I'm not really a fan of these types of threads, as it doesn't really bother me if someone is "misinformed" about Disney. That being said, since everyone else is doing it, I'll just add my story. We were getting FPs and a man at the machine next to us tapped me and asked me why the FP machine was not accepting his dollar bill. I politely pointed to the sign below the machine and explained to him that FPs are free and all your park ticket is supposed to go in there. He proceeded to tell me that his friend told him that each FP costs $1 and was made that he had brought all these singles.

I can do you one better: I have a friend who is absolutely convinced that there aren't any rides at all anywhere in WDW. He's never been there, and he's used to places like Six Flags, so when he sees pics of the Disney parks and doesn't see roller coaster tracks everywhere, he takes that to mean there aren't any rides. I've told him it's because the rides are inside buildings or otherwise concealed by theming, but he just doesn't get that.

The comment i hear the most is i don't understand why you go there every year. This year is i can't believe you are going twice. I dont understand why its an issue most people i know go to the same beach every year and stay at the same hotel. I just am not a beach person im a Disney person

This happened during my last trip in August. We met my 2 year old niece and her mom, and grandparents there. They stayed at Sheraton Vistana and we stayed at OKW. This convo is between my niece's mom and me.
Her: I was surprised at where your hotel is bc I thought it would be IN Disney. Me: It is in Disney. Her: No, I mean actually IN, IN Disney. Me: Old Key West is owned by Disney and within the gates of Disney. Her: Yeah, but it's so close to our resort. So you're not IN Disney. Sigh, I just let it go at that point. I don't know if she expected our hotel to be in one of the parks?? IDK... I was tired and it was a long day at AK, so I let it go .

This happened to my sister and I...we had went to WDW with a friend and her three boys (ages 6, 8, and almost 9)...they had never been anywhere. We get on the tram at the airport and the oldest says "where are we?" we replied "Orlando, why?" his reply "it looks so normal"
We then asked him if he thought he was going to be RIGHT in WDW when we got off the plane and he said yes. It was too funny.

You don't know how many people ask me if our Disney annual passes include Universal!

I take it your BIL is from the northeast? Six Flags in NJ has a safari that you can drive your car through. So it's not that far fetched if he's been to that park.

African Lion Safari in Toronto does this. You can get on a tram and go though, or drive though with your own car, and the animals come up to you and such. It's a pretty neat experience.

It's so strange to me when people are so misinformed about things that are blindingly obvious to people like "us" on the DIS, then I remember not everyone is obsessed with it, crazy people!
As young adults who travel to Disney the most common thing I hear is that it's "for families and kids". I can't even be bothered to explain where we're going when people ask if I think I know what their reaction will be. Quote:

My brother wanted to take his 6 year old twins for the first trip for all of them. He called me, and said , "So, do you think we will need 2 full days? Would we be able to see everything in a day and a half?? The end result of that conversation is that he is now taking his big sister(me) with him and the kids. He pays for me to go( I am broke, and he is a doctor), and I am planning the entire trip. He is thrilled, because he hates planning anything, and I am thrilled because---well----no need to tell you folks why!!
