Dual Level Heat/AC Systems

Now that DD18 has gone to college, there is no need to keep my upstairs as cool or warm - I'm not that concerned about keeping the cat comfortable when she goes up to sleep on the foot of DD's bed!

What can/should I set the temperature on to make sure the house/furniture isn't damaged in any way? I'd love to save some money on my utility bills but I don't want it like a meat locker or a sauna up there, either. What's your experience with this?

I usually keep my thermostat at 72 year round - I like it very cool in the summer and very warm in the winter in my own living space!!

I'm not sure. I pushed mine up to 82. I just did not want the air to come on. Hopefully someone might know the smart thing to do.

I buy a portable AC just for my room. The entire house is 85-90, my room is a nice 78... haha. If i do run the central air, i taped all the vents except the rooms.

but that just me... i dont know if you want to do that, lol.

I used to have 2 furnaces. I would turn the upstairs down to 65 if I wasn't upstairs. When I came up at night I would turn downstairs to 65. When it added the second floor my gas bill didn't go up.
