Split stay - tips on moving with little ones...

We are staying 2 nights at OKW grand villa (hospitality house area) and then moving for the remainder of the week to another OKW grand villa (non-hospitality house level). When i booked they did not have an entire week at one category but i am waitlisted and am hoping it comes through. We will have a 4.5 year old, 1.5 year old and a 1 year old with us. We also get groceries delivered. It would be so much easier not to have to move but any tips on making this move as painless as possible in regards to groceries, packing/unpacking, etc?

We just spent 5 nights at AKL and 7 at BCV with a 3.5 year old and a 9 month old baby. We found that although it was not that big of a deal moving, split stays are not for us (at least not until the kids get much older). ITs possible your 2nd room won't be ready until 4pm so you may have 5 hrs without a room. Fortunately for us, when we went and checked into BCV the room was ready so the kids could still take a nap in the afternoon. Also we had to wait until 4 for our luggage to arrive. In your situation that shouldn't be a problem since you aren't switching resorts. With 3 little kids I would keep my fingers crossed that the waitlist comes through. If not, once you are all packed up from your first room go and check out and and into the 2nd room. With any luck it will be ready and you can move right into it. We tried to do a little packing the night before too so we weren't rushed at all in the morning. Good luck. I'm sure it will work out ok.... you are going to be in Disney afterall. `

split stays can be unpredictable. we did a GV at BWV move into GV to OKW. the OKW GV was not ready until 11:30 p.m. P.M. They were sincerely apologetic but with little ones, groceries, and extended family my only advice is if you can under buy those groceries, do so. i hope your waitlist comes through.

Pack the first two days of clothes for everyone in one piece of luggage, that way you do not need to unpack all of your bags.

You could try to get by the first two days with just a few grocery items purchased at the resort and then have the large order delivered on your move day. Otherwise, make sure you keep your grocery bags or even consider taking some of the re-usable bags from home so you can re-pack your groceries in a more organized fashion.

Hopefully your second villa will be ready early for you, or better yet, your WL will come through! Enjoy your trip!!

Bell service will keep your cold stuff cold. Keep the boxes/bags your groceries come in so you've got them when you pack them up. It won't be that bad. We've done albeit our kids were older but still no help.

Since you are not moving resorts, you can check out / check in at the same time. If you do a late morning check out, you may get lucky and get into your new room immediately (though don't count on it). If your room is not ready, you could venture off to a park or DTD. Make sure you have the resorts phone number. They say that they will call /text when your room is ready, but there have been times I called to check, and it was sitting ready for me (no call / text).

My last trip was 3 moves. It went very well.

The comment above on packing in seperate suitcases is genius. This past trip I made a suitcase for Jambo, a suitcase for Kidani, a suitcase for BLT and it was great. It was easy to just deal with small amounts of our "stuff" at once.

My kids are now 8, 6 and 2. I've also done stays when my youngest was 3 months (a three resort stay) and it again went really well. Disney does a fantastic job at moving your stuff.

I had the kids each have a backpack of their "can't live without" stuff that they had to carry on moving day. This way, even if our room wasn't ready, we were not without special blankets or teddy bears or crayons and toys.

Enjoy your trip!

We always do split stays but our kids are older. We pack up our things and head to a park for the day. They will send you a text to let you no your room is ready. We have always been lucky and gotten our second room early. But since we palmed a day at the park it wouldn't of mattered if we were "homeless" or not because we were at the park.

We are doing a split stay one night at AKL and then over to a GV at OKW. I contacted DVC and OKW can hold perishable groceries in a cooler for you. I would contact them of course because a friend of mine staying at SSR was told they couldn't help with that at SSR. So just an option for all the kiddie snacks and food

Use gallon ziiplocks and pack in them - for ex - all bathing suits in one. Each kids clothing by category - all socks and underwear for dd in one, etc , toiletries. You'll see where things can be grouped. Makes packing and unpacking much faster. On the move day, pack a day bag. We left for a park after we left at 11. That way we werent home while we were homeless anyway. I agree with the separate suitcase for the first 2 days if you can.

We had a stay once with three locations. Did the separate luggage for the first one and then was just careful to plan park visits around the other move days but the bell services took great care of moving bags and such.

We were just past the point of kids needing to nap in the room (they did that in the stroller), so we just stayed at the park and never had to worry about the overlap times.

Thanks for all the tips...still hoping for that waitlist to come through. I called to find out if the room was available that one day i need for cash and it is but it would cost me $1,420 for that one night....
