Is it at all possible to change a Southwest flight over to AirTran ? Just found out I will be able to take an earlier flight but Southwest doesn't have any non-stop flights for earlier in the day but AirTran does, is there any way to do this

No, you can't change your ticket over To Airtran. The two airlines are still operating as separate carriers.
