Proving at airport son is under 2?

Southwest said I could use my son's shot records to prove that he is under 2. He is not even 1 years old yet and doesnt look even close to 2 obviously. I dont know why I am just worrying that this won't be good enough. Has anyone ever used the shot record or know someone who has? I dont have his birth certificate yet bc they dont mail them here, you have to go pick them up and I just havent thought about it bc I havent needed it. Please help.

We have 3 kids, flew with them several times before age 2 and were only asked once for ID. We always carried a birth certificate after that. With a baby under 1 it should be obvious so it is unlikely you will need anything but it never hurts to have the BC anyway.

If he is under 2 and flying free he will need proof. the birth cert is best but I have heard they will use the immunization record. But you do need something. If you have time before you fly I would try to get the birth cert. You are going to need it often all his life. If you don't I would find out for sure exactly how they want the immunization record. Like a print out from the Dr's office or how they want it documented.

Or you will be buying a seat.

Wanted to add that Southwest is the most strict of all! find out from them exactly what they will accept if you don't have the BC. I needed one for my 6 week old on Southwest.

Definitely get a copy of the BC and bring it..that is the safest proof and like the PP stated there will be other times you need it as well!

I've flew 12 times with my son while he was under two and every single time we needed proof of his birthdate. We have a passport for him, however they would have taken a birth certificate or a health card.

You will need proof of his age. I'm not sure if a shot record will do it. I would get a copy of his birth certificate. I flew with DD when she was 11 weeks (obvious not over 2) and they still asked for her birth certificate. Luckily we had gotten it a few days before in the mail.

I wonder why the lady told me that it would be okay then. That is kind of weird. I dont know if I will have enough time to get it by now.

I've heard of a bunch of stories of people not being able to board with a lap baby without the bc. How far away was he born? My kids were born 15 minutes from here, and I just go to the records office and ask for a copy ($15?). I've needed them a few times with the raised seal.

Years ago *DS is 12 now* I used his immunization record to show proof. It's funny, we often fly Jet Blue to S CA, years ago *when DD was 4* they'd ask "Is she under 2?" sure she's petite but come on

I would call Southwest again and talk to another person. I have heard they will take immunization records also, I would just want to make sure I had exactly what they want, like a computer print out from the DR or will the handwritten one do.

Oh really? Now, is it just a fax of the copy of the immunization record/ I actually just called again and spoke to another lady and said it was fine. I am just uneasy bc like some of you said, hate to get there and cant use it.. YIKES

We live in a small town called Prosperity and DHEC is all the way in Columbia. 45 minutes away and the wait is horrible.

Yes but you are going to have to do it one day or the other because they will need it for other things all through their childhood and life. I would just do it and get it over with. You have already spent more than that amount of time fretting about it and trying to find out ways to do it with out the BC.

(45 min isn't that long)

Do you have your older child's? they will need theirs for kindergarten. Why not get both at the same time

WN is notorious for requiring a birth certificate for a lap baby. It doesn't matter if your child is a newborn or 23 months old. You will need a copy of this soon anyway; might as well get one now. I never heard of a requirement that this has to be done in person, but I am naturally not familiar with the policies in all states!
